Our 45th Wedding Anniversary

This past weekend, my husband and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary! We went to one of our favorite Laguna Beach restaurants where we watched a spectacular sunset and had a fabulous meal. We shared an Ahi Tuna appetizer. Then, he ordered scallops and I had roast duck. We split a creme broulee for dessert. On the way home, the full moon was spectacular. It is hard to believe that we have been together 45 years. The time has flown! The photo above shows us on our wedding day. We were married in a park in Berkeley. I was a "flower child" of the 60s; he was a conservative stock broker! Many of our guests didn't think it would last. Some of our guests are still in touch and contacted us this week to congratulate us. It's nice to have friends for so long!

You were(still are) beautiful. Congratulations, it`s hard to keep a marriage so long.Im not sure of the US,but in Europe, it seems like many young couple cant wait to divorce. I think it`s one in every 1.5 in every 3 marriages breaking up. Been married only 2 years, there are ups and downs, but in general im so happy and see me celebrating 45 wedding anniversary with hubby, the sad part? l dont see him hanging around that long

@miniam - I certainly hope that your husband stays with you. We've had our ups and downs over 45 years, but we are happy we stayed together. Read the book, "Getting the Love You Want." It really helped my husband and I get through a rough spell about 20 years ago.

@DeborahDiane I love it - not your typical white foo-foo wedding dress ! Oh and I am getting a kick out of the pattern on the foreground guy's pants!

@much2say - That was our minister wearing those crazy pants ... those were his dress-up clothes! LOL Life was a lot different back in the early 1970's, especially in California!

@sallypup - Ha Ha! I haven't seen that minister in decades. He is probably very conservative and wears blue jeans or khakis these days!

Is the man on the right in the coloured trousers a pastor?

@DeborahDiane That is a very American answer! We don't haver the combination disc jockey/pastor in Germany. I think his trousers belong to the disc jockey side of his personality. :-)

@MALUSE - He was a very "colorful" personality, too!. I have to admit that his combination career is not common here, either. However, he was a good friend and we wanted him to perform the ceremony.

@MALUSE - Yes, the man was a licensed pastor, although he did not work in a church. He was actually a radio disc jockey who also was licensed to perform weddings.

Happy Anniversary, I can't remember many couples getting married in 1971, most of the gals I knew didn't want to give up their freedom so they opted to shack instead ..... it worked well for many of them who after a few years did end up married and still are.

@rebelann - You'll appreciate the fact that, although we got married, we did not have any wedding vows. I wasn't going to make any promises! That might not work for everyone, but it worked for us!

Congrats! They were sure wrong when they predicted it wouldn't last! We've been married 50 years and there are not two people on earth who are more opposite than my husband and I. Needless to say, it's taken a lot of patience and grace of God!
