Banknotes - Size And Colour

I'm on holiday in Spain at the moment, and the banknotes here are different sizes and colours, depending on how much they are worth.
It's the same at home in the UK, and it got me wondering why US banknotes (or dollar bills asI believe they are referred to) are all the same size? All the same colour too.
I know that any time I've had to use dollars, I've had to scrutinise them carefully in order to select the required amount. It's much easier to fish them out of your wallet by colour, as we are able to do.
Everything is going beautifully for us in Spain, we had one day when it rained for a while, but apart from that it's been mostly hot and sunny.
Hasta la vista.

We have different size banknotes. Presently, our PM put a ban on 500 and 1000 banknotes out of blue this month. New banknotes of 2000 are issued which are in pink colour.

@Daljinder Why were those two notes banned? Is the pink 2000 a new colour?

@jaboUK To counter corruption, black money and terrorism. The bank note of 2000 itself is a new banknote.

so's such'll fit neatly'n our wallets? search me 's to why, hon. perhaps the diff'rent color inks cost more'n jest our plain ol' green? if'n such t'were reversed, i'd need to be checkin' each 'f y'all's bills coz i aint used to that color codin', lol.
i'm glad to hear 'f the rain - not so's such'd put a damper'n yer holiday, but that 'tis most needed 'cross that country. so glad 'tis been mostly warm'n sunny there. been downright nippy 't times here. yesterday a most gloomy day with light sprinkles 'n no sunshine. winds hit 'bout 10pm 'n howled 'til 'bout'n hour 'go.
enjoy, my friend! y'all deserve this :)
big hugs 'n love!

@crazyhorseladycx Our wallets have different sized pockets for the different sized notes, so that's no problem.
I don't think the bit of rain we had would make much difference here, but I suppose it was better for them than nothing.
Sounds as if your weather isn't too good, hope it improves.
Hugs back atcha

@jaboUK ya do?? that's most interestin', my wallet's jest one spot fer bills, lol. i'd hoped they'd get more rains there'n spain, somethin' to help ease the drought.
the weather here aint made'p 'ts mind yet 's to what season 't'd be. this time last year, we'd already gotten a couple 'f light snows 'n e'en ice. i've my fingers crossed these fronts'll slow down. i need my pony time somethin' awful!
thanks fer the hugs, sweet friend! sendin' ya some more'n hope they warm 'fore they arrive :)

@lovinangelsinstead21 We have another two weeks here yet, and though it's a bit chilly at night it's been mostly good during the day.
The different colours of the money is a big help, especially when you aren't too familiar with the currency.

So that's where you are hiding. Happy holiday Janet. We in India are going through the demonitization fiasco where the common man is left high and dry.

@jaboUK I am fine as I had a few of those demonetized notes which I was able to exchange for new notes. It is those who have huge number of those particular notes in that you they are allowed to exchange a few notes at a time.

I can tell you are having a good time in Spain. I observe the dollar bills of the colour. Same with Philippine bills, each amount has a designated color.

@jobelbojel It makes sense for notes to be different colours, doesn't it?

@Mike197602 I think we've come away at the right time as I know the weather is pretty bad in England as a whole. It's actually raining here at the moment, but it's not expected to last long.

It is interesting as to why many places have different sizes, the different colors do make sense, as well as different sizes. For some people it is just easier to have different sizes and colors and for others we just got used to having it all the same. It is a good question though. I love looking at other place's currency.

@jaboUK That is true. I know I have to pay close attention to any cash I am using, I am dyslexic so numbers are not my strong suit haha

I've no idea why our money is all the same size and basic color. At least it's a different image on each of them. I'm sure someone may want to search out the why's and wherefores of this question, but it won't be me at this juncture.
Glad you're still enjoying your stay in Spain. We've had chillier weather this past week but next week it's supposed to warm up twenty degrees although it could rain almost every day. We did get a little snow yesterday but it's mostly melted by now.

@MarshaMusselman Someone has said that it's to do with counterfeiting - apparently it's practically impossible to forge the US notes.
It's been cooler here the last two days and we had a little rain, but it should be brighter from now on. You've had some snow already? Sheesh.

@jaboUK We had snow already one day last month too. That time more hit the ground than what we got yesterday.
I think our money used to be easire to counterfeit than it is now. Now they've put more watermarking into it and added more colors, but whether the counterfeiters have kept up their technology to compete with the new bills, I don't know.

So happy you are on your annual trip and enjoying the sea! In Canada the bills are all the same size but they are different colours as well so you'd have no problem with Canadian money!
