i won!

After work last night I popped into a cheerily chilly church with a couple of friends. We didn't go to sing hymns, pray or light a candle. No, my lovelies ... it was hosting an Etsy pop-up fair thingy, so we went to spend money on beautiful handmade goodies, designed and created by wonderfully creative folk. I was a tad disappointed; there weren't as many stalls as I expected there to be. However, I did come home with a bunch of Christmas presents for some of the various people I love and adore. AND, I paid a pound for a raffle ticket and won a goody bag! Apparently I was a rare breed as very few had had the fortune of picking a ticket ending in the number 5. Drinks and a pub meal with yet more friends meant that I didn't get a good look in my bag of goodies until I got home. As a side note, cheap pubs in university city centres are something I really should steer clear of. Students are so very noisy. Oh my gosh. My bag of goodies contained oodles of wonderfulness, somewhere in the region of £25 worth of odds and sods, little things donated by some of the Etsy sellers. Most of these little things {a few cards, a lapel pin, a brooch, a Christmas tree decoration ...} were things I had admired but didn't buy because I thought they were a tad overpriced, so you can imagine my surprise and delight. Friendship, food and the winning of delightful bits and bobs. This young{-ish} lady went to bed with a smile on her face.

I saw the notice about the Etsy fair in a free local magazine and thought about going (but didn't because I haven't got my ducks in line for Christmas yet). Raffles (and especially Tombolas) have fewer tickets ending in 0 and 5 than you'd expect, I discovered recently, because books of tickets come with two of each number and ALL of them except the 0's and 5's used to stick on the prizes are folded and put into the pot. That means that there are TWO of each number to draw from EXCEPT for the winning tickets! Most unfair! Congratulations on drawing a winner! I try to avoid city pubs in the evenings, especially towards the end of a University term. I have always hated the brash studenty clamour where everyone is trying to out-shout everyone else!

I think I may give people Marmite lol. I have not been into a city pub for years. Village pubs tend to be friendly here so why go further?

@Jackalyn Now that you can get personalised Marmite, I see no reason why even Marmite haters should not get a jar for Christmas! Round here it's got quite difficult to find a village pub. They have nearly all either closed or become expensive, shabby chic restaurants where the bar staff ask "What's your table number?" when you just want a drink!

Yep, I didn't realise that the colleges break up this week. It explains all the Christmas hats!

@poppylicious You don't sound like a rowdy pub lady; I'm not either, not a lady of any kind in fact, and I won't run the risk of stepping in a puddle of squishy vomit just to get a drink.

Those rowdy days are definitely long behind me. I can manage noisy and busy pubs for a couple of hours, but easily become overwhelmed. It was a relief to get outside.

I tend to avoid churches at all costs. There could well be bolts of lightning if I stepped inside one!!! I don't even enter raffles these days as I have so much bad luck. I like to have a little bet now and then and I've put a bet on Newcastle to win 4 times this season. Newcastle have only lost 4 games (out of more than 20) all season. Guess which 4. I've been asked to stop betting on them!!

That's cool that you won something. At least it's something you liked. Almost every time I win something, it's something I don't want, or like.

I enter a lot of competitions online. I rarely win anything, but enter anyway because if I win something I don't want, I can sell it. :)
