How can we help! What is a prayer. What to pray for.

One of my best friend´s mother is dying. She is dying and she is in pain yet she doesn´t die. If I could pray, sometimes I feel that it is not an ugly thought to pray for someone to end pain and misery. I have thought a lot lately about medicine and I think that medicine should extend life only if we can have a good quality of life. More days of suffering are not what I want for me. And I don´t think that this is what a God would want either. It is more the pride of us, human beings, trying always to ape God.

I am so sorry your friend's mother is dying and is in so much pain. There are many ways to pray for people. Praying for God's will in this situation is the best.

I fully agree with you. My sister-in-law is not hospitalized with stage 4 cancer, the doctors know that it's a matter of days, at most weeks, so I do not understand why they continue the chemo and do not let her alone.

@LadyDuck Years ago, or centuries ago, that´s what happened. And I´m sure it was better.

Why not pray for wisdom for the doktors to relieve the pain. I don't know her situation, but I read about a woman who was dying in cancer and she was advised to eat only vegetables to avoid the pain. She did so, and probably due to the alkaline diet, the cancer disappeared. According to Dr Robert O. Young an alkaline diet can help. He is in Facebook..

@buenavida Maybe we, cancer patients who are not in her stage, should eat more veggies.

Lili´s mother cannot eat much more than a spoonfull of food a day. As for my ides, I think that at this point of her life, I´d give her to eat anything she wants.

I don't think there is anything wrong with praying that God will stop your friend's mother from suffering and to end or lessen her pain in some way. Pray in your own words, as God can read the thoughts of our hearts. I hope and pray that her pain and suffering will end soon.

When my husband was in the hospital after his fatal fall and the doctors were trying to stop his brain from bleeding, I remember trying to pray and not knowing how. So I sat and thought and thought. I wanted to beg God to save his life and give him back to me. But the doctors said that if he lived, he would probably have brain damage. How could I beg God to make the rest of his life be so awful for him? It wasn't about me, after all. It was only about my husband. And so I prayed the only words I could. "Thy will be done." Only God knows what is best. And when my husband passed away, I knew he was in God's arms and I would see him again when God calls me home. I will pray for your friend's mother, and I know that God will do what is best for her, as well.

Those were the only words I could say when Tomás, my grandson, was dying of cancer. I don´t belong to any church, but I believe in that prayer.

@CRK109 I don´t understand what God is and the only time I prayed was when Tomás was ill. And the only words I said were "thy will be done". I was praying for acceptance.

@marguicha Yes I think there is a lot of power connected with it. I also don't belong to any church because I can't get there. But I pray to God every day.

When I pray for someone I wish the best for the person! I wish good and positive things! It is like sending good energies, sending love! I always feel good after praying, because having light thoughts is quite relaxing, even when the situation in my life isn't the best. We can't control if someone is going to live or die. But we can always send them love! This is good for your soul and specially theirs. This is really helpful in tough times if you believe in something greater!

I envy the people with faith as I don´t have it. But I can send good vibes and lots of love and I know it helps. Yet, when the pain is too much, where´s nothing to do but wish it to end.

I agree with you. Sometimes it is the people who are well who want to prolong life and they want to do so at all costs.

I understand it when there´s no pain. But if the person is in terrible pain, why insist?

Just an opinion, sometime we misinterpret the means of prayer, sometime we use it only for a call of help. The thing that we can not is why we need to pray? and now if you pray just for the needs sometime it wrong. once we pray always think about it, where is the answer? how do i know if it an answered prayer? When we go to church every Sunday and every time we attend a bible study, there if you here a word that sometime put a mark in our hearts an relate to what is happening eventually in our life that means that's the answer of our question to our God. Think about it, just like when we are calling to some one on the phone we expecting someone to talk back. just like God when we pray expect how God will reply, you know how sometime He reply at the church, when we read the bible and when attend the bible studies. And for that matter, think about what is the God's purpose why that person experiencing that pain. Maybe He trying to test how big is the faith she has. And even to the relative He is trying to look who ever put God first than to believe on what the human tells. Do not worry about what gonna happen to her its because God knows about the plans we know God is the author of our life... Be blessed.

I confess that I envy the sort of faith you have.I´m sure that sometimes it is easier to live when you are sure there is another life. It is not my case though, nor my friend´s.
