You can't work today. You're pregnant.

Did my title grab your attention? Don't worry. It's not a Christmas miracle and I'm not pregnant.
One of our nephews has done a lot of FIFO work in Western Australia. FIFO stands for 'fly in, fly out' and refers to those who fly long distances to a minesite, work almost non-stop for some weeks then fly back to spend a few weeks at home. Before clocking on for their shift, they are required to provide a urine sample which is tested for excessive drug and/or alcohol substances before they are allowed to start work.
For those who are a bit anxious about what the results of their tests might be, it is not unknown for them to provide samples from a 'clean' mate or colleague. Our nephew told the story of one worker who went a bit too far though when he persuaded a female companion to provide his urine sample. The pharmacists took great delight in informing the worker that he was pregnant!

@hereandthere It will become one of those urban myths - except that it won't be a myth. :)

That's what you would think, but people do this sort of thing over and over. He might be smarter next time and ask a male for his urine instead of a female.

@thislittlepennyearns I can't see him making the same mistake twice - unless he is extra thick!

LOL oh goodness! I am certainly glad that I was not drinking or eating anything. My screen would have been covered. How funny!

Beautiful story! I imagine the shame the worker had though.

I guess the company is not too concerned about tough screening requirements if they will just let you bring a sample with you. Here in the U.S. they make you give the urine sample at the test collecting site, and they watch you while you do it to ensure that you are not cheating in any way.

@moffittjc It seems strange that they weren't more strict. If they got their results wrong, they were putting lives in danger.

Did the said Lady know she was pregnant. What a surprise for her too if she has only just found out. Unusual story to say the least. I bet he won´t ask a Lady to do that again in a hurry.

I should think that they would tell him off and nothing much more than that. But it is funny. I can bet he does not think it so funny now though.

@arthurchappell That's very true. I didn't hear what was the outcome. He could have been fired or maybe held over till the next shift.

Conclusion -
It's not safe to provide your urine sample before and after a female provided her sample.
Here usually we have FIFO. So for that they will have token number given to you. It will be wise and good gentleman gesture to let the girl get ahead of you

If I understand it correctly, it is hCG hormone which is detected in urine for a pregnancy test. This hormone is, of course, increased during pregnancy but it still exists in both men and non-pregnant women. High levels in anyone who isn't pregnant can be an indication of cancer. So, I hope this is just a funny story and he's been caught cheating on the urine test, but it would be sad if it turned out he hadn't cheated but was laughed at while it turned out he had a serious disease.

Do you think his face would have been red? If he was happy to do that, maybe he didn't even care that he got caught with such a sample.
