We interrupt this most festive time of year for #6 in my Favorite "Dead" Songs, "Pretend that We're Dead" by L7.
Although they formed in Los Angeles in 1985, L7 is mostly associated with the Riot Grrrl (all female bands with a punk attitude) movement of the 1990's. "L7," according to Wikipedia, was a 1950's slang term for "square." After a lengthy hiatus, the band is still at it.
From their 1992 album, Bricks are Heavy (produced by Nirvana producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig,) "Pretend that We're Dead" is a rocker that did alright for itself. The song hit #8 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, and #21 on the UK Singles chart. It was also, among other things, featured in an episode of Beavis and Butt Head, and can be heard on the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
I loved the entire Riot Grrrl thing, and "Pretend that We're Dead" is one of my favorites from that scene.

As much as it rocks, it's pretty radio friendly, but I really only heard it on alternative stations. If you weren't listening to those, you probably didn't hear it.

I always loved this band need more lady punk rockers. They do it so well and has to be pretty damn liberating. Mans world and all. Do me a ladys top 10 of punk rock. I am terrible at it. Have not even got past 8 on my dog breed one and I started that over a month or 2 ago.

Blondie were often mistaken for a punk band - theis band seems to be what Blondie would sound like if they were punk

Did you see their photo with Joan Jett on Wiki? The first thing I thought was L7 existed because of The Runaways.
