15 More pounds and I have reached my goal of 100 pound loss

My weight loss was not a form of a diet, just common sense. I never went on a regular exercise program either. Through the years I tried almost every diet I heard of and some very expensive ones too. Now I don't spend any money on "diet" food or drinks.
My secret to this weight loss was cutting down on everything. I would have the 100 pounds off by now if I didn't have my husband around all the time.
Like many others, I tried almost every diet I saw but even though some worked, I gained the weight back. Somewhere along the line I saw a show about not depriving ourselves but just the opposite.
It has taken me a few years but I am keeping it off while still eating everything I want. The secret was to try everything I was in the mood for but only a small amount. I would stop a the ice cream stands almost everyday on my way home from work. If I didn't eat what I craved, I would try all the "diet" foods and then I would eat the "goody" foods after that.
I use to do that when I was gaining the weight and get myself a large thick shake. After starting the diet, I stopped a few times a week and got the smallest amount I could get. I read some place that all we need is a couple of tastes of our cravings and we would be satisfying.
It really worked and today and I am almost at my goal and I know I will reach it soon.
We are going away for 2 weeks and I dug out some of my old winter clothes I use to wear before we moved south. They are so big I have to go shopping. Another plus, I am not spending any money on special foods, I eat everything I always liked. Even a piece of chocolate every week.

@JudyEv Exactly. We all have to find our weaknesses and ways to satisfy our cravings. If I do not eat a sweet or two when I desire it, I will pick for a long time and that is where the problem is. Eat a small amount of what it is that you desire and when you want it to get it out of your system.
The real problem is when people crave something and they eat the whole pie, cake or other great goodies.

@ramapo17 It is reassuring to read your post. I crave chocolate and rarely have it in the house as I eat until it's all gone. But I have a chocolate button or two (cooking chocolate stuff) most days and that seems to be enough to satisfy the urge.

@ramapo17 I am doing it. Yes. we can work together. I have more than 15 pounds to lose though. But I will get there. I want to be feeling much better by the spring and summer. That is my goal. But first, I have to get through the holidays.

Thank you so much @crazyhorseladycx. Through the years I have tried every diet that was around and I did lose weight but gained it back. This way I can do my thing, my way and I am more apt to stay on it.

@ramapo17 NO don't lose too much you need a bit of padding for old age! They act as your reserves!

Congratulations on losing so much weight, and for doing it the right way! Diets don't work because you aren't really changing your habits. And everyone who starts a diet will eventually go off of the diet, and then BAM! the weight comes back on. You have to take it slow and steady, so your body has time to adjust. You are an example of the type of success you can have!

@moffittjc Thanks. I have a husband that eats constantly and is always telling me to eat more as he thinks I don't eat enough. I don't tell him I am trying to lose weight although I do mention how much more I need to meet my goal. He doesn't care how big he gets.

I lost about 40 pounds that way about a dozen years ago and I should do it again. I would like to try the "mini-fast" diet first because it sounds like it would work a bit better for me. Perhaps a combination of both! Moderation is the key for most people losing weight but my body doesn't know what moderate means, it just keeps craving. I think I need to train it again!
Congratulations on your weight loss, you must feel fantastic!

@dragon54u I don't usually get cravings but if I need something sweet, I will still have it but only a small amount. When I see pictures of me from before I am grossed out that I did that to myself.

That's good you figured out how to lose some weight and still enjoy the food you like.

It took a long time to figure it out and the good thing is my husband doesn't even know what I am doing. He is always pushing things on me to eat as he loves to eat. If I take a taste here and there he doesn't realize I am holding back. It is hard to diet when someone in the house keeps eating everything.
