Buffet vs la carte: what do you prefer?

Yesterday i took my office friends for lunch, as my birthday treat was due. They decided to go to a speciality buffet place, a place that serves local cuisines of a place in india. It was so much of food, we felt full only looking at the varieties . I feel with so much food in plate, you hardly enjoy anything. The food was good and we had lot of fun. But i still feel a la carte is always better than a buffet. With la carte, we eat what we wanna eat rather than eating what's being served. Whats your take on this? Image courtesy : google

Just by looking at all food in the pic, I already feel so full. I prefer la carte, as I don't want to waste any food. Lol.

Yeah, you end up eating lesser in a buffet with so much food.

I prefer ordering entrees (la carte if you call it there) because its food choices I want. Buffets I would get over full of trying bits & pieces of food and its not satisfying =(

Today I seldom will go to have a buffet. Although there are quite many food in the buffet. And therefore you are forced yourself to eat more so that it will be worth to the price. And I find it is not a healthy way. I feel so full and uncomfortable after that. This is why I prefer to eat in a restaurant which I can choose my food.

Generally in a buffet, i end up eating more of desserts and skip the main course . It's definitely not healthy !

@shaynas Usually main course is always dull in main course, the main highlight of buffet is deserts and starters.

I quite like a buffet as you can pick and choose and have as little or as much as you like.

I prefer buffet style . I can make my selection from whatever is there and I can decide how much to put on my plate.

I like buffet, more choices and you can get just the right portion for you so nothing would go to waste. In some restaurants I find that the ala carte portion is too big for me.

If dining alone, a la carte portion is surely big. If i am dining alone, i prefer buffets too :)

At first any buffet looks so tempting, you get soup, starters, appetizers, main course, deserts everything at one fixed price and that too unlimited. But I have realized, once we are half way through, we are eating just for the sake of eating. Its my observation, that the taste is compromised when it comes to buffet vs ala carte. Also the service that you get with al carte is much personal compared to buffet. But if you are giving a small party or treat, better to go with buffet to plan your budget well.

Exactly, what you said, i feel the same way. You hardly get anything of your choice in a buffet menu, but you eat for the sake of eating. And service part is true too, as in buffets, mostly it's self service.
