Do you make New Years Resolutions?

It is hard to believe that 2016 is almost over! This year has flown by to say the least. To be completely honest, I am so ready for this year to be over. There have been some high points for this year, but more than anything else, this year has been filled with problems, frustrations and troubles. So it doesn't hurt my feelings that this year is coming to an end. But I am looking forward to 2017 and I am ready to see all that it holds for our family.
I know that many people use this time of year to make resolutions about things that they want to change in the new year. Unfortunately, those resolutions will not be kept for very long. I have made resolutions in the past and I have kept a few of them from time to time, but I was just looking over my list from last year and realized that I haven't done a very good job with my resolutions from last year.
I am not planning to make any resolutions this year. However, I do have some goals and things that I would like to do in the coming year. I want to step away from my phone and computer more in order to spend more time with my wife and kids and being present in their lives even more. I want to devote myself to learning more things and growing in my knowledge of new areas that I haven't studied. I want to give more love to those around me. I want to take care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally.
So what about you? Are you making any New Years resolutions?

Yeah I never really was that into making resolutions until the last couple of years. But I tend to try to do too much at one time and it finally just gets old and I give up. I now try to just focus on a few things at a time at the most in order to not overdo it.

I don't bother with new year resolutions these days, if you want to change something then you should just do it, regardless of the fact it's new year. I have lots of things I'll be working on though over the next few months, both in my business life and personal life.

That's awesome! I agree wholeheartedly! There are a lot of things that I want to do in the coming year and I will evaluate and re-evaluate periodically throughout the year.

Now I can definitely get behind a New Years Resolution like that! I love me some pizza and I believe that is a resolution that I would have no problem keeping!

Don't give up on resolutions. It helps you pull you over. They needn't be perfect. Keep it fun.

I guess you could say that I do still keep resolutions, I just do them a little differently than most people.

I understand that. I believe that a lot of people use New Years Resolutions to make it look like they are wanting to change things but don't really follow through. I believe that we should treat every single day as New Years and determine to live each day to the fullest.

That's a good point. Daily resolutions are more effective than waiting until New Years to make them when they most likely will not be kept. I think we need to reflect on our lives more often and make changes needed on a daily basis.

@scottcoleson I've learned to make daily reflections since I left accounting for teaching 15 years ago. As a teacher, I reflect on my lessons at the end of each day to see what worked, what didn't, what I should eliminate, and how I might improve. This has naturally extended into my life outside school.

@DWDavis That's a very good way of putting it. I learned to do the same thing when I was serving as Youth pastor for several years. We need to make adjustments more regularly to be more effective and successful in life.

@scottcoleson I get depressed when I fail so I don't resolve to do anything other than to try to write better.

I can understand how it can be depressing if you don't reach your goals and resolutions. I sometimes deal with depression and I beat myself up a lot when I don't do something that I need to do. But I have determined to make goals and reach for them and if I don't reach them, I just keep trying.

I really like that idea! I have spent the last several days reflecting over the last year and the things that I am thankful for and what I would like to be different in the coming year. I think we need to take more time regularly to reflect on our blessings!
