I Don't Like It

My grandson decided that he wanted to look like a surfer dude in nursery school, so let his hair grow. All the other little boys liked it and did the same. Then, it was cute.
He had it cut for kindergarten, then decided he wanted to look like the skateboarders he took lessons with, so let it grow again.
He is in first grade now and will only allow a trim.
I don't like it. He looks like a girl, although he acts like a boy.
Guess which one in the photo is my grandson.

Actually I find that a cute style.. it's IN these days. You could talk him into doing a St. Baldrick's thing or something, where he gets sponsors and then shaves his head and it all goes towards children with cancer.
When my daughter's hair was getting too long I tried to convince her to donate some to cancer patients, but she didn't want to. Eventually she chose to cut a bit, but not quite enough to donate.

@DianneN My daughter's hair is still long.. but at one point it was almost to her waist and she refused to cut it.

@katsmeow1213 It looks beautiful up like that! I can understand girls growing their hair to their waist, but not my grandson. That's his plan!

I'm guessing your grandson is the one in the NY Rangers shirt. His preference for long hair will soon pass. Don't fret about it.

@DianneN have you tried asking him to cut his hair short?

@allen0187 Of course! Lol! He likes it that way. I'm sure he will cut it one day, but when, is the question.

Back when I was a kid it was the parents who decided what hair cut the little boys would get, most of them got the really short hair cuts that left only the tops at a half inch or so, typical Army. As for the girls, the parents decided what they wanted their little girls to sport, some went with short because it was easier for moms to brush, mine allowed me to have long hair.
Oh, your grandson is on the left and I don't think he looks like a girl. My dad would have disagreed with me tho.

Sometimes he wears it in a ponytail, again making him look like a girl. Lol! My granddaughter is old enough to put her hair in a ponytail now when she is in camp for the summer. Otherwise, her mother puts it in a bun for ice skating competitions. My hubby wishes he had hair!

I'm guessing the one in blue is your grandson. Has anyone told him he looks like his sister's female twin? A casual mention that they look like twin girls might be enough to get him thinking about a hair cut.
Going back to what my father taught me, though, it's not the length of the hair, but the quality of the mind and the size of the heart that matter.

The one on the left, and yes his hair is quite long. Funny how hair style change from year to year. In the 70's long hair on guys was all the rage.

@fishtiger58 Yes, they believe in letting the kids express themselves, and don't sweat the small stuff.

@DianneN I guess his parents are ok with it or they could make him cut it.

Whatever trends that are set for boys your grandson is vetoing them all. What I like about your grandson is that he has a mind of his own even at this young age. It is not difficult to guess who your grandson is in that picture

@DianneN lol I always said that hair is just hair as long as they are respectful and doing well, it hardly matters how long or what color it is!! During the summer one year Alex made his hair very blond and Amie my granddaughter has had every color under the sun. lol

The one in the right? Kids go through phrases like this. As he gets older he'll probably grow it out? And have a shorter hair cut.

@Gita17112016 Lol! I taught kids with dyslexia, so don't worry. Their parents let them stay up for New Year's for the first time ever, since they were on school vacation. Yes, he's the one in the huge blue t-shirt.

@DianneN Ahh, I meant to say the one in the blue! My dyslexia is showing up. Sorry. The children are distinct by features too. He looks like a boy. Were they celebrating the New Year?
