My most-repeated myLot phrase...

Are there some words you find yourself typing over and over again here in discussions, responses and comments?
In my case, "here in the UK" seems to be the most-commonly repeated expression.
Those words save confusion and also explain why I might be calling things by different names than they have in other countries. I sometimes wonder whether 'hereintheuk' should have been my username!
I occasionally find alternatives: "in Great Britain", "here on the south coast of England", or whatever. But, time and time again, I go back to those four short words and I will continue to do so.
Well, that's how we do things...here in the UK...

Ha, ha, I can relate to that, as my most used phrase is probably 'Here in New Zealand ...'. Like you, it helps to avoid confusion when things seem to differ from what others expect, especially as, being in the southern hemisphere, we're currently experiencing summer ... here in New Zealand

I think the phrase that I repeat the most here on myLot is 'welcome aboard' as I often find myself landing on posts by new Lotters.

@asfarasiknow Yes sadly that is the case. Their loss in most cases though

Sadly many don't stay aboard for long as they come here with the wrong expectations.

I had to think about this one, as there are several words I say more than others. Some of them are "and", "now", "sadly", "California" and "I". Now you can add any others that are used by me a lot and we know I'm wordy.

@asfarasiknow Probably not as when you are in the United with blooming flowers in November people will need to know where you live, as most of the country gets really cold. Its like living in Hawaii the posters would be able to post lovely flowers when others don't have anything blooming.

Can you really use 'California' too much?

not so much in my writing but told I over-use the word 'actually' when giving talks and presentations - surely not actually true ... oops

Better an actually than an 'it's like' a 'you know'or an 'er'.
And as for that rising INFLECTION at the end...

@asfarasiknow I had not thought of it that way... With Internet Radio, the "home" service has become a "World Service" - Imagine, Simon Mayo or Chris Evans heard in Brazil and South Africa at the same time as in Twickenham... Students of English the world over have never had so much scope for the vernacular!

@pgntwo Guest slots from Janet Street-Porter, Vic Reeves, Frankie Boyle, Johnny Vegas or John Bishop would be interesting for them.

I would still have to specify the country, though.

It is good to call attention to the area you are discussing. It should save confusion for most.

well i don't mention my country unless the conversation requires it....but i have it mentioned against my name...so i hope people notice that.
i think i use the words "I guess" a lot in my comments. mostly so it doesn't come off like i am stating facts that i expect them to believe...

It's good to let our fellow Mylotters be aware of our location . It then explains why we may say or do things differently.

I guess it's easy to write like all myLotters are our next door neighbors, but that can lead to all kinds of misunderstandings! I think it helps to sometimes remind readers where we are on the globe.

You are right. There are also sparse times when it can be difficult to find appealing posts to respond to. It's a little easier with those from our own location.
Even putting the £ sign in posts about money doesn't always identify the country. I am not sure how well-known GBP is outside of GB.
