First Problem Of The Year

After a full morning of inactivity, finally I am back to myLot.
This morning, while I was going through my notifications, I lost the Internet connection.
I called our Internet provider, but they were unable to fix the problem online. According to their tech guy, our line had a problem.
My husband thought they were wrong and the router had a problem, so out we went to buy a new one.
Hubby was right, the new router works Internet is back.
Well, it seems that during the first week of the new years we always have at least one tech problem and we have to spend money to fix it. Let's hope that now it's over.
Did you already experience a "first problem of the year"?

I'm glad your husband was smart enough to recognize the problem and fix it. My problem is a cold I got. I felt it coming on the day before New Year's Eve, but it bloomed in full on New Year's Day. I have my husband to thank for the cold, too.

@LadyDuck We never found out. My young neighbor friend and I went exploring with flashlights, so we made it fun. I hope you feel better soon. You've inspired me to gobble up an extra Vitamin C before I got to bed. I hate being sick.

@LadyDuck Maybe updating the firmware could have some effect on it, either as re-establishing connection or a more efficient diagnostic system. Of course the problem lies in that without the router connecting to the internet the firmware would have to be downloaded via the new router and installed from the desktop.

I logged into the old router, launched a diagnostic and it said everything was fine. The DSL led was flashing and the line continued to come and go. I thought it was the router, but they insisted it was a problem with our line. I know they want we switch to the fiber optics, they can forget that we pay plenty of money to bring the cables inside the house.

@Asylum We had updated the firmware about three months ago. The router was weird from a couple of days. This morning we had three computer on the router and one printer, I was the only one to be able to access the Internet. After the tech guy performed a "reset" nothing worked anymore.

The reasoning of my husband was very simple, the cost of the tech guy would have been higher than to buy a new router and try. The store where we bought it confirmed that we had one week to take it back if we do not needed. We tried, it worked.

The other day my Internet went out and I also thought it was the router, thankfully it came back in about 10 minutes. I was worried. No problems so far. Glad you got yours fixed. No fun with the internet down

@fishtiger58 Our router was installed by the Internet provider and it was pretty old, I checked and it was installed during the year 2008. I think it has lasted a long time.

@LadyDuck I have been with mine for quite some time, I think we may be on the 3rd router with them already. But the price is not bad and so I stay until something better comes along.

Your new year started on a slightly bad note and you had to face internet problems. Technical gays were seemingly inapt as they could not find out the real cause of the problem, it was your husband who sorted out the matter.
Incidentally, my internet at home was also down and despite making complaint, it was not set right by previous night. We have become so dependent on internet that it has become part and parcel of our life. If internet stops working, life comes to a standstill for us.

@LadyDuck - I thought technical guys do not listen to us only, you are also facing the same problem.
We could life without food for few hours but not without internet, such is the state of affairs.

@LadyDuck Yes, the tech stuff always amounts to spending money. Thank goodness our husbands know about this stuff to keep the costs down . We have other candies and chocolates too, but this one in particular was soooo good (I think they're only from Hawaii).

Yes, in fact it happened shortly after midnight on the 1st of this year. My neighbors were shooting off fireworks and one banged so loudly over my mobile home that I almost fell out of bed. I then had to console Max and Meetzee who were terrified.
Every year it is the same thing, I just pray that stupid cannon they use to shoot off fireworks breaks.

Yes, people can be so very stupid @LadyDuck here it seems parents are ruled buy their kids who love all that banging and booming and have no regard for anyone other than themselves.
Sadly, here in El Paso, too many parents never discipline their children.

@LadyDuck No one better tell me they need to check our telephone line, we don't have one! Sometimes it's better to try your own fix first. Glad it is all back to normal.

So far, so good for me. But my daughter has gotten sick, with some really bad flu-like symptoms. Not a good way for her to start the new year. At least she didn't get sick when we were on vacation at Disney World!

@LadyDuck The interesting thing is, neither me nor my son have gotten sick, either from the crowds at Disney or from being around my sick daughter.

I have the internet, but I'm unable to access my business checking online statements at present. I don't know yet if it's a problem at the bank or with my browser or computer, but the page that lists the statements won't open up. I just spend time trying other browsers, but most of them won't even open up any longer. I just uninstalled firefox and may try installing it again, but that hasn't been working well for some time already.
We had problems some time ago, a few months or so and ended up purchasing a new modem and router from our service provider. The one brand of routers we've gotten from stores aren't lasting as long as they should. We even got one directly from the manufacturer and that was trash too. We should be good for modems and routers for some time now, I'd hope.

I hope this one is a good modem/router, it comes with a warranty of 5 Years, if it breaks during the next 5 years it is replaced. Let's hope it works because it is annoying to have Internet problems.
Your problem is pretty serious, I wonder if your firewall blocks the page.

@LadyDuck I have no idea, but it seems like it wouldn't start doing that all of a sudden. How would I check that out, do you have any idea?

@LadyDuck It doesn't seem to work even without the firewall activated.
I may eventually defrag my computer as I've not done that in a while. I did get the info needed using my husband's computer, so now I know it's not a glitch at the banking online site.

@bunnybon7 You cannot believe it, but the tech guy came anyway to knock at my door because he wanted we to buy "THEIR" router. I have sent an email to the provider informing them that I will not pay a cent for the visit of their tech because I did not ask for him to come.
