CITY OF GOLD.

Imagine a city or town where residents can go walking, shopping or partying decked out in their gold jewelry and have no fear of being robbed . I once visited such a town, but that was way back in the nineties - and I doubt that kind of freedom still exists in 2017. Do you feel comfortable or safe, wearing gold jewelry when walking or driving in your neighborhood ?

What place is that? It's not safe here to wear expensive jewelries. They will be snatched for sure

Actually it is a town in Guyana , South America and a lot of gold and diamonds are mined not too far away.

I would if I had any. Attacks on people rarely happen here although break-ins are fairly common.

Yes, it does depend on where you live --- and if you have any

I have no jewelry whatsoever and even if I could afford some I would not want any. I'm just a simple man with simple tastes. These days one should be very caytious and not be so showy. There are eyes watching them.

You are right of course. Every day people are murdered for their possessions.

I don't wear jewelry, but I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and never feel totally safe here. Where was that town in the 90s? When I was in Munich Germany, the locals told me (in English) that they felt safe there.

I would feel safe in the daytime. Night is another issue. But then I live in a really small town

It might be different in a small town. A friend of mine was robbed in broad daylight in the city. We were walking down an avenue, when the robber sneaked up behind us and snatched her gold bracelet.

Where I come from, wearing expensive jewelry is not a problem unless you wound up on the wrong side of town. The downtown area, where most of the nightlife is, is perfectly safe to wear anything expensive down. That doesn't mean, however, that it is safe EVER to put anything down.

You certainly won't want to lose your wedding band, but I suppose your area is safe.

I know the gold and diamonds are still there , but I doubt there is the same freedom to wear them.
