Great Place for a Holiday

Once a holiday meant lots of action for me, going places and doing things. Now, my ideal holiday is far less ambitious. We both prefer a quieter time, somewhere to totally relax. Last year the little house beside the ocean we went to gave us exactly that opportunity. The highlights of that trip were siting on the deck in the morning, drinking coffee, gazing out on the Pacific Ocean in an isolated place with few people about. We knew it was the kind of holiday we wanted to repeat. It was a long way from home though, about a seven hour drive. There are plenty of places closer to home. Yesterday we went exploring over on the east coast, less than two hours away and we think we've found the perfect spot for our week's holiday in May. It's autumn here then, but the weather is still pleasant enough for beach walks and being outside. Yesterday we sat on the beach pictured here and ate fish and chips for lunch, something we rarely eat at that time of day. But who can resist fresh locally caught fish! On our return home I went online and found a lovely beach house, just across the road from here, where we can enjoy the ocean, no matter what the weather is. I think we've found the perfect place for our next beach holiday.

@valmnz My kind of holiday too. I'll be booking the cottages we hope to holiday in this year soon. They'll be on the west coast of Ireland.

I know you like this kind of holiday too. It is great to disconnect from busy life and reconnect with yourself, isn't it.

@xFiacre same here re cost for many places, well maybe not Portugal this place is quite isolated, we won't be popping down to the shop or out for day trips. Just us and the sea. I love hearing that the Irish coastline and ours are similar. I guess many places are.

@valmnz The problem is that those cottages in Ireland have become more expensive than a cottage in Portugal, and with cheap flights it can be quite tempting. That picture could easily be ireland!

@valmnz Would that mean you would have to cook and stuff? Would you be taking smooch along

@allknowing yes, you take your own food, bed linen and things you need and do your own cooking. Otherwise the beach houses are equipped with everything you'd normally have at home. Smooch stays at home and we have a cat minder who looks after him.

Neither. This is a tiny seaside village. We're renting a little holiday beach house.

One problem here is that many beach places now have huge rental prices. I enjoy a city break too, but need at least one week beside the sea each year.

Thanks. I took this on my phone, so I'm pleased with the way it turned at out, as the sun was shining and I couldn't really see the view properly on the phone screen.

Because it is at the beginning of winter and a week after school goes back after holidays there'll be no rush on the property. But yes, as soon as hear a reply from the renting agency about a question we've asked, we'll probably book it.

Kia Ora Mate! Which part of NZ are you from? I've spent almost five years in your beautiful country and have almost covered NZ twice and I must admit, it's one of the most beautiful and gifted places on earth. Am pretty sure, you have ample of options for holidaying as the entire Kiwi Country is so beautiful.
