Are you a good neighbor?

My neighbor was surprisingly kind this morning!
We met at the elevator and she looked very pleased to see me. She actually wanted to start a conversation by asking me where I've been and how is work but I was running late so I had to give very short answers!
This would normally be a typical conversation between neighbors, but in my case it felt strange.
I used to see this woman twice a week probably, outside the building, and she would never talk to me. My "good mornings" didn't get a response when I first moved in so I stopped trying.
Hopefully she appreciated me as a great neighbor now and decided to socialize! Or she is planning to ask me for a favor soon lol
Do you have good relationships with your neighbors?
Do you make efforts to know people better in your neighborhood?

Think you will only know if a neighbor is good after you had been neighbors with them for a long time, but that's just me

Our nearest neighbours are relatives and when we first moved here they called on us a lot in order to borrow food or oil, or money or a lift to the shops. We did not expect repayment but they could have helped my husband clearing the land that they had messed up. They could have visited to see how we were. So eventually things cooled down a little but we still get the odd visit for a handout.

It's harder to say no if they are family in that case. Some people like to take advantage of others in order to cover their own needs.
I prefer a more "typical" relationship, which includes the occasional greetings but it's not a very close relationship either. It depends on the person though, I became very close friends with my old neighbors and we are still friends.

I do, I'm fortunate that my neighbors are all nice people. We only see each other a few times a week but when we do, we have friendly conversations without a problem.

Honestly, I don't talk to my neighbors. I don't even know their names though I'm familiar with the faces of some. When I'm home, I just want to sleep and rest, and do nothing more. I'm always tired from work and I don't have time to make small chit chats with my neighbors.
