From A Poet's Soul

The soul of a poet lives forever through their writing. Poetry isn't a form of thought, or merely an expression of emotion. Poetry is a way of life. It reaches deep down into the darkest corners of the mind, rips it from the roots and splatters it on paper. The mission isn't to awe the world, or to make billions. The mission is to try and learn how to grasp our own reality and hold onto it before it vanishes into nothing. If I weren't a poet, I wouldn't still be in this existance. Poetry has saved me from myself in my bleakest hour, and poetry has seen me when love has touched my heart. Poetry is not simply roses are red violets are blue. Poetry is the essence of humanity.

I read at least one poem daily. I too have written poems in my darkest hours. That is when I write best and the poems will live on long after I am gone.

@ladyraven My only son holds my poems with other papers. I am glad to know that they will be with him as long as he lives.

@TiarasOceanView That is really awesome! I hope your writing is read from generation to generation. I have a blog I keep most of my writing on. I seem to lose track of paper copies over time.

The ability to write poetry is a gift that some people have, and many more aspire to. One is either a poet or not and I don't believe that it is possible to learn to be one, any more than it's possible to learn to be an artist or a musician. It's certainly possible to learn to be competent with words and versification, just as it's possible to become competent on a musical instrument or with brush or pen but 'art' is something more - something magical, undefinable and, usually, something so compelling that it must express itself somehow.

Hmmm... I agree with you and disagree, as well. Yes, even though I quit writing poetry, that does not mean my brain has given up feeling the words I speak come out in unintentional rhymes... with depths and nuances without thinking about them first... My soul still shows me what life is/can be when I find myself setting my thoughts to the rhythms going on around me, unheard but felt and sometimes seen. Poetry might be and sometimes is the way we grasp the world and those things we want/need in it. Poems can soothe our soul and stir our imagination... But, not everyone can create a poem, no matter how much they want to or try. Nor do some people feel poetry in their souls. (If they did, there wouldn't be nearly as much pain and suffering in this world as is currently seen/felt/heard.) Therefore, poetry is not the essence of humanity. It would be nice if that were true... We would live in a much nicer, more caring world. It is nice to make your acquaintance here on myLot. I hope you are enjoying yourself and beginning to make friends while you earn your pennies here. Welcome to myLot! If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know. Edit to add: Thank you, @pgntwo. I appreciate this!

Not to forget to mention your poetry that you write is beautiful! I love reading your writings, you're very talented. But I've told you this plenty of times before! So don't you dare ever stop writing, always write, express and show off your talent. I'm glad it's helped you throughout your life, makes sense! Your stuff is always so deep too!

Awww, thank you sweetheart. That means a lot to me to hear you say that. I won't stop writing as long as my hands can write! And, if I ever lose my inspiration, all I have to do is look at you. Lol, I know I'm a cheese ball! :p

I am not a poet so I wonder if it ever touched me in any way.

I write a few rhymes of sorts, but I don't feel like you do. Mine is mostly trivial stuff, though I do the occasional deeper one.
