Does Anyone Really Do This?

I'm reading a book and the female lead character is a very petite young lawyer. As the book progresses this lady lawyer is in prison with a client/inmate when a riot breaks out. She's attacked by a burly inmate who tries to rape her, and while he's sitting on this very petite young lady he's got his hands around her neck trying to strangle her and banging her head on the floor. Needless to say, the lawyer is rescued and nothing serious happens to her other than being traumatized. When she gets home, the first thing she wants to do is wash away all of the days stress so she gets a bottle of wine and runs a nice hot bubble bath. She relaxes in the tub with her nice chilled wine, a good book and is surrounded by candlelight. Sounds like a perfect way to relax to me but here's my question.... Do people really light all those candles around their tub and bring a bottle of wine with them? I know I've taken bubble baths and sometimes I would read but the water got cold way too fast to spend much time in the tub. Seems as if this is a pretty picture for tv shows, movies and books but I wonder if anyone does this in real life???

I would think it would be a bad idea. Especially if she's reading a book. The water would destroy the book and I bet it wouldn't do well if it were a Kindle either.

Does a Kindle have enough power to give you electro-shock therapy?

@TheHorse I wouldn't know since I don't have one, and I would certainly not use one in the shower/bath.

Wow she seems really relaxed after all that happening. I would be pacing and freaking out. I used to take bubble baths with a book but never candles. It sounds nice though. Drinking in the bath seems a little strange to me though. Lol!

I thought the same thing, that she wouldn't be doing those things so soon after almost getting raped. It sounds like it was just another day for her if she reacted in that manner.

I have a friend who takes a bubble bath and surrounds herself with candles too. When I had an old clawfoot bathtub, I took nice long soaks. I passed up the bubble bath because they cause UTI's and who wants those? When the water would get cool, I unplugged the tub and ran more hot water. It was a luxury that I wish I could partake in today.

I used to enjoy having a hot bath in the dark with just candles. It was relaxing because I the bathroom really needed modernizing and in the dark I could relax without looking at the terrible tiles. Now I live in another house and only take a shower and I had quite forgotten about the candles until I read this.

@Marilynda1225 Most writers write in such an exaggerated way. That is poetic license,I suppose.

After awhile the water gets cold and the bubbles die away.

No too much work to read a book, the time I would get all those candles going, I would probably be too tired to tke the bath and my fall asleep in there. so no, not me,, but it does happen I am sure.

I think I tried taking a bath with a couple candles lit ONCE and didn't care for it. The bath water got cold too fast and it didn't seem romantic to me, just creepy. I've never read or drank anything in the tub. But then I rarely take baths -- I prefer to shower.

I am afraid of lighting candles around my bathtub...what if my hair catches fire? or the shower curtain?

I used to take long baths in the tub. I could get an ornage juice and something to read, but as you say, the water gets too cold fast and one could hardly have time to read but a few pages

I have only taken a bath less than 8 times in my adult life...candles cause fires....and I don't drink.

I am a shower person myself. I have seen all of those bathtub scenes and have never tried to do anything like that. Here is something interesting I found online so I suppose if they tell you how to do it some people do try it.
Creating a romantic bath is an opportunity to experience relaxation and intimacy with a partner. You can use items from around the home or bought from stores to create passion in your bathroom. To create the romantic experience, prepare...

I would have taken a bath, had food and slept for hours and hours.
