don't think it, don't say it

The Manager of the local cinema thought that the film wouldn't have a lot of folk wanting to see it. The teeny little screen was jam-packed, mostly with mid-teens enjoying a Friday evening of fright. The Bye-Bye Man and his hell hound are a crafty pair. I suspect that when not working they hang around with Candyman and swap ideas on how best to kill the kids. It isn't a particularly scary film. In fact, it lacks the fright factor. A few creaky doors, some screaming students and a crazy librarian. Oh, and the Bye-Bye Man and his goofy looking hound. Except they weren't sinister enough for my liking. If you're going to be a horror film, at least be a bit scary. The premise - that all of humankind's most unspeakable acts are caused by this 'man' - was fascinating, but underplayed. *sigh* I did enjoy it despite, or maybe because of, its predictability. Spoiler Alert! They all die. We've all seen Final Destination ... we know we can't cheat our way out of an inevitable death. I particularly enjoyed the gown thing hanging on the wall. It didn't look like a weird man. No, Sir. It wasn't even a matter of if it was going to move, just a matter of when. A mediocre film. A pleasant romp, but not a film which makes you care for the young people or their eventual fate.

Not my type of movie at all, but then, I rarely go to the cinema. The last movie I saw at the cinema was "12 years a slave". The last show I saw at the theatre was "Mathilda".

I'm so used to watching films at the cinema now that I find it really difficult to watch films at home.

@Poppylicious we purchased a large screen television a year ago. Love it.

@Morleyhunt It's not so much the size of the screen, it's the ample distractions which live in my house!

I've seen previews for the movie and it seemed interesting. I had no intention of going to see it at any rate, but glad you've reviewed it here for us so I definitely won't be going to see it now.

It isn't a bad film, just not the best!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I much prefer those that could actually happen in real life. They're far more scary.

I am not a fan of horror films, and it always seems that the unlucky teens are too annoying to really care about - which is why they become the victims, I think. When characters we actually like die in films, they call them intense dramas.

even the trailer made me think it was a Candyman / Final Destination crossover plot

@Poppylicious for me it was the Final Destination guessing games as to which of several deadly things going on at once was going to kill the victim - that was fun to see

In a scary movie some unfamiliar scene or move help a bit to attract audience attention. As it seen most scary movies have similar type of concept and idea.

Most of the films are just different versins of each other. It is rare to find a unique and original one.

I like scary movies, but they MUST be scary or they can be incredibly boring, especially if the plot is nothing interesting.

@Poppylicious I agree, the characters are important in the scary movies.

And you have to care about the characters. If you don't care, you can't be scared for them.

@poppylicious I do like that picture. There's a cinema we go to which screens mostly "minority interest" films and sometimes we are the only people in he audience. It can be really creepy coming out after midnight into a cold, silent side street, a sinister moon shining, after watching a spooky film.

I like it when we're the only ones in the cinema. It's my idea of Heaven. The picture is from my trip to Harry Potter during the week. :)

If you're not keen on horror films it probably won't be your cup of tea.
