Mostly celebrities hesitate to take political or any cultural stands. It may be due to the fear of backlash of people or the fear of losing the popularity . There are both negatives and positives to it. It also depends upon the society which you live. Is it conducive to free speech etc. So what do you people think ? Should they or shouldn't they?

@abhinalstrikr If they give any statement which may be good or bad it may make or break the image of the nation in other parts of the world where these celebrities are followed and loved.

They get money for it so thats why they should't. They are not politicians they just use their influence to favor someone. What a rap artist knows whats good for you? I think its best to have your own opinion and dont listen to noone

Basically if a celebrity takes a stand it influences a part of society. It may play a crucial role in the outcome of that nation. So they have great power hence greater responsibility. Irresponsible stand based on caste, creed, religion, money, popularity etc is bad, hence staying away may be good than bad work.

If a celebrity believes in something they can make a big impact by supporting and sharing their beliefs. They have money they can donate, they can also urge the public to share their views, and a lot of their fans will listen.
I guess it depends on their political views. Personally, I do not follow politics very closely. I ask my husband to explain it all to me in laments terms and then make my decision. If I were a celebrity I would not endorse a political candidate as I'm not really qualified to do so.

Their comments and opinions are speculated given twists and turns, which creates hatred. Better to stay away from politics and work for social causes is better I guess.

@TheInvisibleMan ya, they are rich but they have tremendous power, although not as much as politicians. As power is always greater than money, they are always above the reach of common man.

@HAPPSINGH Well, "represent" is a heavy word for me. But, choose a side to defend, yes.

Well they are people like us so they may or may not take political stands. They have every right to say who they stand for and they also have the right to chicken out or keep it to themselves. Backlash is normal. Even unpopular folks get backlash for speaking their mind.
