A Kid’s Way of Entertaining Himself

When we were small kids , my sisters and I would entertain ourselves by playing at the lawn . Or we would be playing inside the house with our dolls as we are all girls .
But nowadays , give the children a tablet and they would be still just watching the cartoons and other children movies . They would just sit there and be entertained .
That’s what I saw when I went to my parents’ house last Saturday . I borrowed the grandkid of my sister from her mother to play with at my parents’ house . How I love this kid !
He is a very naughty boy who keeps running here and there . So , when I got tired following him , I asked her mother what can make him still even for a moment .
She got her tablet , gave it to him and lo ! He was behaved and seated , just watching the children stories and songs .
I bet , some of you can relate with your little kids in making them just be seated and not be naughty anymore .

@SIMPLYD Oh, they're even naughtier because they don't have shame unlike normal kids. They're even more hyperactive. What his father does to keep him calm is give him an iPad.

My kids never had electronics. They were read to, went outside to play and discover the world, and had activities such as music gym, and arts and crafts. Same with my grandkids, although they are only allowed to play educational games for a set time on certain days.

That is so nice that both your kids and grandkids are not into electronics.
It's much better to be into activities such as those. At least they are educational , formative and allows them to physically be active too.
Our kid too didn't have any electronics in her childhood , except watching cartoons on TV . I guess , if these gadgets were the craze already , we will still not allow her .

the advantage when we were young, we play outdoor games like 'taguan' (hide and seek), or 'shatong' (2 unequal sticks and catching the shorter one). now, kids are playing games with the latest gadgets.

@SIMPLYD if the parents of today will have their extra time to play with their kids and play the games outdoors and connecting with other kids, i bet the kids will also enjoy and realize how their parents played before as kids, and appreciate that as well

@SIMPLYD That's correct. They should be playing with their peers instead of computers.
Their social development is affected because of these modern technology.
unlike during our time that we really have time playing with kids in our neighborhood or with our classmates.

I know that technology is a big help to kids nowadays but I'm still glad that I was able to experience the simple things in life when I was younger. I'm afraid kids nowadays haven't had a chance to experience that.

@SIMPLYD so true! Couldn't agree with you more. I think schools and parents should be more proactive in re-introducing our local games to kids nowadays.

I have a nephew who is very naughty and just by giving him my tablet will make him behave. My niece already behaves. There is no need for us to give her anything. She loves books and sometimes she draws or just watch tv.

@SIMPLYD I was responding to you when lights went out. I forgot what I said a while ago to your comment. Hahaha! I am sometimes like this and it also happens when I talk with my bf at times and I try to not to tell him soon. But when it is already time to tell him about it, I already forgot it and he would just laugh at me.

@infatuatedbby We parents learned to do things on gadgets through our children. There are no gadgets yet in our time , that's why .

So true .
In fact in my childhood days , our helper would really search for us in the neighborhood because once we get to eat our breakfast , we will be with our friends and cousins playing those physical games outside.
But they were so enjoyable and we grew up so close to our cousins .

It seem now a days people easily provide their gadget to children without hesitation to get relief from their naughtyness.

We know that giving them this gadget is unhealthy in a way that it keeps them sedentary . However , maybe after we get tired taking care of them by running after them here and there , an hour of the gadget will be enough for them to use while we get to rest also .

hahahaha same with my nephew and niece. My 6 year old niece usually holds her 6" phablet and streams videos on YouTube... And the funny thing is that, she loves to watch videos of mothers delivering their babies... Whoa!
But sometimes, she watches cartoons...

They will really just be silent when they are given a tablet to watch their favorite cartoons or a TV with cartoons.
Though, growing up with always that for a plaything, I can say that they miss a lot of happiness because they didn't experience what me and my sisters experienced when we were still kids. We play with our cousins on the lawn and be outside with friends and cousins playing when it's full moon.

That is a good way of raising children . They should be allowed these gadgets when they are mature enough to discern what are the good and bad things to watch in there .
