The impossible has occurred: I have a cold!

I take pride in never getting sick. I think it's because being around kids inoculates me against all of the wee beasties (germs) floating around out there. But with Winter break over, and having been away from the littlies for two weeks, I have an honest to goodness cold! A bunch of the little ones came back from break with snotty noses, deep coughs, etc., and I reckon my resistance was down due to the Winter break. How about you? How often do you get a cold? Do you think being around kids a lot helps build up resistance?

I am exactly like you, I never get sick, I did not get a cold for at least 40 years and I am very sick right now, cold, cough, headache. I have no idea who passed me this horrible thing.

Maybe it was the Russians. Heh. Here's to a speedy recovery for both of us. I was able to do my progress notes last night, and I have some paperwork stuff I can do today. But I don't think I'll be ready for an afternoon kid client.

Hope you feel better, I get a cold rarely, maybe twice a year. Lots of vitamin c does the trick for me

@TheHorse When I get a cold I view it as a forced vacation and so I take it easy and forget about most things that I have to do until I get better.

I think my last cold was somewhere in the early 70's @TheHorse . I even took care of my husband and his friend in the 80's when they got the Hong Kong Flu...never got it.

It would be easier to catch the germs if you're around little ones with colds. I posted a discussion last November titled "Cold Free". I haven't had a cold in years.

@TheHorse The message might not appeal to everyone. I spoke about my diet changes, which I suspect contributed to the fact that I stopped getting colds and haven't experienced one in twelve years.

@Jessicalynnt There is only so much we can do. I went to work today, though technically it was a sick day for me (I was trying to catch up on paperwork), and discovered that many of my colleagues have a cold as well. The good thing (for me) is that I'm so rarely sick, I have over 100 hours of sick leave accumulated. I could take a few "I'm sick of working with these blasted troubled kids" days off and be OK. I'm trying to cop a 'tude so I can get better. I'm miserable but not really in pain.

I go from one school to another substitute teaching. I try really hard to keep healthy and I rarely get sick. Hubby got a cold in the fall and then I got it. Hopefully that is it. It does seem that new teachers get sick frequently and that we gradually get immune to Everything!

@TheHorse - It boosts your immune system and speeds up the cold. I've been over bad colds in four days. Make sure you take it with food.

The best remedy is squeeze a lime with honey and take 3 spoons from every hour and the cold goes away pretty fast

One or two last year but not very much either. However this week is a real challenge with the temps going right down. On the other side of this Country they will be having problems to stay well too as their calid coastline has seen Snow for the first time in years and its still snowing too. However seeing as it has not rained there for so many many months I would think that might be quite happy about it not sure though.

@TheHorse Yes, the South of Spain at least in parts of it has not seen Rain for quite a while but when it does Rain all hell is let loose. The River estuaries are usually not clean and clear so that is problem number one and also the drains are not kept like they should be so that is another one added plus the flooding of underground Car Parks very dodgy that one. I see a bit of Califorinia almost every week on the News and if not in some program usually the one about the Auctions and the storage thing.

We'll take all the rain we can get here in California! I hadn't realized there was drought in Spain as well.

No..I think being around little ones increases the possibility of us getting those cold attacks..lol. You are funny..lol. You have not been eating well, and in all probability something is weighing on your mind. I do get cold...may be once in three months or so. :) It is good to get sick a few times in an year. It kinda ensure the presence of enough antibodies in there to fight anything major. Hope you feel better.

Uhm... if you are interested in knowing this, being around children doesn't inoculate you against all the germs kids bring into school with them. I believe you must take some protective measures, even if you don't think of what you are doing as prevention against the germs. I've often wondered about how you never seem to be sick, like most teachers I've met... I figured either a very good immune system or you were unconsciously taking good precautions against catching the worst of the germs... Now, if only you took those same precautions when you were doing "other" things!

@TheHorse Okay, you just grossed me out, but I have read that in an article, as well, pony! (It was not fake.) That those kids gain some immunity from that activity doesn't mean they pass that immunity on to others. It means they can be carriers for the sickness and pass it on to their teachers. That link is the citation for what I claimed. Sorry!
