HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?

A very disappointed newly wed man , after seeing his bride for the first time without makeup the morning after, immediately started divorce proceedings. His grounds?-- that he had been conned.
I wrote about this much publicized story two years ago on a former site, and it just crossed my mind that I neglected to follow up the story to see if he actually went through with it or if it was just a publicity stunt.
Anyway, on the topic of makeup: How much do you wear? Do you think it is really necessary? - and would you feel naked without it?
When I lived in the city, I wore some makeup every day but here in the country , I wear some only on special occasions.

I don't usually wear makeup. If I do it is just mascara and eyeliner and maybe some lip color.

I don't wear much makeup at all. I prefer the natural look and don't like to waste time "painting" my face only to wash it all off at the end of the day. It seems like a waste of time to me.

@Kandae11 That's true. Our body absorbs it. Yuck...

Back in the 80's I never went a day without make-up. I was home most days with just the kids, but I always started the day by putting on at least mascara.
Now I never wear make-up. The last time I wore mascara was about 6 years ago. I was a plain Jane for my wedding in 2011. My daughter tried to convince me to let her do my make-up. I chose to just be myself.

@ElusiveButterfly Me as well. I never wear it. I was myself on my wedding day too. So, he can't divorce me for that particular reason.

It sounds strange that a man wanted divorce on the ground that his wife does not look good without make up.
I do not wear any make up. I do not need to, I believe. I look handsome without any make up.

@Kandae11 How could a woman become different person just by wearing heavy make-up? Her mannerism, voice, speech and gestures will remain the same even without make up. Is not it?
What makes you think I don't need any make up

@dpk262006 I haven't seen you in person, so I am taking your word for it. For whatever reason I believe that guy was simply making a fool of himself or perhaps he was trying to settle a long time grudge, because he even wanted compensation.

Why is it about wearing make up and not about how people are so judgmental about looks? Make is an art and some people like to put on layers or some people like very little and some wear none. I really do not think there should be considered an amount that is too much. Even if I think a person looks like a clown, if they do not ask for my opinion, I will not give it. If they want to wear pounds and pounds of make up and that makes them happy, they should go for it. But it shouldn't be because they think their natural look is ugly, it should just be for freedom of expression. People are freaking shallow.

@Kandae11 Yep. It is not a burden if she loves doing it.

@DesirousDreamer Yes, but she may not be aware that it may be burdening her pores.

I don't wear alot of make up, just eyeliner (as my eyelashes disappear), moisture cream and lipstick. Only when I have to go out and want to dress properly then I use foundation and mascara as well...
I think it depends on where you are going...if it is everyday then not too much is much better.
Why men only like to look at beautiful things???

@Kandae11 Yes it does. I remember on my wedding day, I put more make up on then usual. Guests looked at me and said 'oh you look beautiful today'... No idea if they said it to make me happy or I was really beautiful..

Since I do not socialise much I hardly use any make up and that includes lipstick. I think I should put on some lipstick as it keeps the lips moist.

I used to wear eye shadow and liner then they changed something about them and I got the worst kind of rash on my eyelid, haven't worn any since. It's probably for the best, at least people can't complain that I scared em by forgetting to wear any, right?

Only when I go out somewhere special, otherwise I can't be bothered. When I worked outside the home I did wear makeup daily.

Oh my. Is that a real story? The guy who divorced his wife? Well, it is probably better off for her if all he liked about her was her looks. I tend to wear eyeliner and chapstick most every day
