She thinks we are already super-close.

I am disgusted with a colleague who is new to our school. She was hired last semester, and since she handles students in the medical ward like me, we got acquainted with each other then. I welcomed her and gave her some pointers about the ward, where I am a clinical instructor for 10 years now. While I handle my learners in the regular wards, she handles her students in a special ward, the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Since it is a special ward, it is expected that punctuality should be practiced, both by the instructor and the students. But nay! She comes on duty an hour late, maybe 2 hours late, and still she gets patients there. I asked her students (a CI who comes late should be reported to the Nursing Office of the hospital, and the students should be redirected to the school's hospital for their duty) why she can still come for duty even though very late. They say they will put her tardiness when they evaluate us, their instructors. The reason shocked me: she pays for the staff nurses' dinner, buys them bags, shirts, and other items. Ah! That is why she is brave to come in late. But that is not ignored by our dean. The thing that disappoints me is that she thinks we are buddy-buddies and super-close. She brags that she can come on duty at any time and still she is welcome in the ward. While I come on time, she is so relaxed; she comes late and leaves early. I am not in any position to call her attention (but I think I can because I am the oldest among the CI's); I will just tell our coordinator to check on her. (The beadle has the attendance logbook; he might show the TIME IN and TIME OUT as well). How would you react if you were in my place?

I would be upset if she was coming in late all the time and still getting paid, I hope the dean notices her tardiness. however you may not want to report her if there is a chance that you would have problems with her later.

the clinical coordinator already knows her attitude on the area. i and another colleague still told her about her coming in late, and it was supported by her students as well. yes, she gets deductions from her salary because the beadle jots down the exact time that we log in and also when we dismiss our students

@fishtiger58 bu we worry too if her actions are not reprimanded by our dean because that would mean her students will suffer her tardiness again in the clinical area

@ridingbet That's good that someone in charge is aware of her and her lateness.

In my opinion you did the right thing to inform your coordinator. It's up to him to check on this person.

I would also feel annoyed because she's bribing her students just so they will cover up for the works she missed while not yet around when she's supposedly been around already for an hour or two. And to think that she is still new in the hospital. How much more when she is already a regular!

@SIMPLYD i believe the staff nurses will open up what this CI is doing, but accepting the bribes is also against the hospital's policy, so they are also guilty, don't you think so?

no, my lady, she is bribing the staff nurses. the students are the ones complaining to us about the CI's tardiness and attitude, that is why they said they will evaluate her negatively when school year ends. she is a new clinical instructor, and she feels we are 'sisterakas' already.

her behaviour is iinexcusable as is that of those accepting bribe-presents to turn a blind eye to her behaviour

@ridingbet once bribed they daren't speak out from fear of exposure - they risk the guilty party taking them down to by pointing out that they took the bribes - the bribes guarenteed their silence

maybe these staff nurses receive the bribes from my colleague but just the same, they might report her just the same to the NTO or to the chief nurse

I'd let the dean know and the director of nursing at the hospital. That kind of tardiness should not be tolerated. It sets a bad example for the students.

the NTO (nurse training office) of the hospital monitors the clinicalk instructors of the different colleges of nursing, midwifery, and clerks of the collge of medicine, regarding their punctuality in their areas, and submit their evaluation to the chief of hospital. i am certain my colleague will be dealt with accordingly

@just4him at all, my dear. tardiness should never be tolerated no matter what the excuse might be except when family matters of force majeure happens

I will be the one to tell the Dean if that's the case. Hihihihi! For me that is not fair. I always come in early and there's one who's always late. hmmmmm

I think she needs a wake up call and be reprimanded by the management that she can't just do what ever she wants except the job task to her. Better off staying away from this woman until she becomes professional, she might abuse it though.

her reason is that her youngest child has no nanny to take care of her, and she waits for her older daughter from school to take care of her brother, but i think that is a lame excuse. she has many relatives staying with her in their house

i think you have done the right thing by telling the co-ordinator to check on her. No point confronting her yourself if you have no authority over her.

I have been in that place. The teacher's log book would be filled with said colleague's wrong timings even if they came late. Way past that was allowed.

She's obviously pretending to be your best friend so that you won't say a word against her. The best thing you can do is ignore her and her actions.

she should not pretend to be my best friend because my only best friend is in the capital city;we barely communicate but we are besties. no, i don't have to ignore her, because if i do, and the others too, she will feel so alone in the college
