Agony of dressing up

In my interaction with @JudyEv she did say that it was agony dressing up while she was young. I share that feeling fully with her.
If the dress was fine the shoes did not match and what about the bag, or the broach and even lipstick. Everything had to be just right.
But not any more. We do not have to bother about such things any more. As not only has fashion changed that advocates mismatches, uneven hemlines........ hardly anyone notices what one has worn these days.
What are you wearing? (lol)

I get sick looking at those hemlines which are planned to look that way. Wish that was in fashion when I had a subject where we learnt to stitch. I used to be put out of class because I just could not get the hemline straight I would have been the best fashion designer ever.

@JudyEv I recently bought a floral shrug to go with my black outfit.. I hardly socialise but I like to look good and different if ever i go for one. This one was when I had sponsored that Christmas event for the mentally challenged.

@allknowing I don't like the funny hemlines nowadays either. And I hate the cardigans which look as if they have stretched to glory.

I remember those days when I used to take a lot of time just to look nice. Then when I became a mother, I dressed in whatever in what people call "the mommy look". Then I got tired of that . . . and in the past couple years, I've decided to look "nice" again, but without all the fuss. I know how to throw clothes together quickly, put make up on in less than a minute, and brush my hair to decency in a few second flat .

I would spend more time mixing and matching than time taken to dress up, in the good old young days.

@allknowing I should mention that these days I make sure I get clothing that I can mix and match with easily . . . that helps with getting ready quicker .

@amitkokiladitya I can never forget when young, how horrifying it was to discover that the nail polish did not match

Well, due to having issues with Fibromyalga, etc these days it would take a miracle for me to wear something that people might want to consider dressier and many times I don't even care if my shoes and purse match my outfits anymore even when I have to dress up. There are occasions I would Love to be able to do this but anymore it gets quite expensive to be able to even consider.

You can relax as no one watches you whether your clothes match or not

Good point. I kind of wish the 60's and 70's were back. The clothes I liked to buy then are nowhere to find nowadays.

I tend to go simple. I've got a couple pairs of dress shoes, slacks or a skirt and a simple blouse. If I'm really going all-out I'll put on a necklace. But I don't really like dressing up. I think it's more the dread of the event than the clothes, though.

I too am in my day clothes which are fit for may be to entertain visitors, may be, but ordinarily I go for colours that do not demand much matching and mixing nowadays. In my younger days it was different. Everything from top to toe had to blend (lol)

I beg to differ. People now a days are more fashion oriented. Sometimes, they are ghastly latest fad worshiper that they forget which one goes to another pair. And don't ever think that no one is watching you. Every one watches you unless your a bad dresser since your a kid. When I'm confuse what to wear I always go back to basic.

It is easy now to follow fashion as there is no semblance of order in that even two different prints are seen worn together..
I say it from experience as I hardly notice what someone else has worn which was not the case when I was younger. Those days there were fewer clothes and fewer varieties
