Just a quick discussion

February 5, 2017 2:15am CST
Some of you maybe following me, and are wondering about my profile picture. The reason for deciding on such a picture was that I wanted to show everyone that I had many different angles to myself. I have also been on Facebook a lot these day's, and noticed quite a lot of similar images, where there can be more than one image. Anyway I was having a discussion to @magallon (Cristy) about it, and she told me that it's called "Perceptual Illusion". Where you can see one image, but if you look closely you can also see another image. never heard the term Perceptual Illusion except when I talked to @magallon so found it very interesting. Have any of you had an experience of Perceptual Illusion where you see one image, but it might also be another image too?

I did search for that image, and found it elsewhere. - it is very clever, if you cover the left or the right half, you can see both images individually. It is not really a picture of you, though, is it?

It's not an actual picture of me but still I find it to be really neat. I like pictures which make you think because it keeps the old brain active.

@gustavowoltmann I wonder if there is a site to let one modify your actual profile and face-on photos...?

I have seen examples of these 'perceptual illusions' although I didn't know the name for them.

Perceptual illusion are also termed as visual or optical illusions. It is as if our mind is playing tricks on us.

Yes I have seen that a lot online. The most famous example of perceptual illusion is the spinning dancer, have you ever seen it? You can see the dancer turning clockwise or counterclockwise depending on how you look at the image and how your mind works.

@magallon Yes it's a tricky illusion of the eyes and the mind! Have you seen the spinning dancer? She is spinning but some people can see her spin one way and some people see her spin on the other way.

Perceptual illusion is a term used in Psychology which means the perception of something objectively existing in such a way as to cause misinterpretation of its actual nature. I have attached here an example of Perceptual Illusion. In this picture you can see faces of an old man and woman, a chalice and two figures of a man and woman.

Yes I have seen a few they sometimes have them in newspapers they have one that looks like a pretty princess with a small crown when you turn it upside down you see and old lady. The image you have is of the guys face and a side profile so if you look at it flat it looks like half his face is missing and his nose looks odd. However when you look at it from an angle like you are looking at someone from the side it looks normal. Also stereo-grams offer a similar illusion. IE:Blue waters but if you stare at it you will see another image maybe a dolphin a pictures inside a picture.
