Hubby and I went for a drive yesterday. We went out this weekend instead of next because we both despise crowds.
We drove over a local dam that is know to be home to a pair of bald eagles. Imagine my surprise to look over and see THREE eagles chilling out in a tree next to the water. They were HUGE. I'm guessing it was an adult and two juveniles as only one had the full head of white feathers.
It isn't my first time seeing bald eagles. We frequently see them when we drive through some parks on our way to visit my inlaws. Seeing them on TV is inadequate.
What wildlife have you seen that is better in real life?

@AranciataRoss Yes this one was just in a cage barely visible it was just the fact a rare animal was there. By breeding them in captivity they got these birds off the endangered species list which I am happy as I would rather them be in the wild then in a cage.

We went to a zoo in California and saw an eagle there a few years ago. This one was not awe inspiring. There's something infinitely majestic about seeing them in their natural domain.

@shaggin I'm glad human intervention does some good. My hubby told me yesterday the black rhino is still teetering on the brink of extinction because of poaching. I hope that something can be done.

I was on a cruise with my sister last fall and went to Alaska, we saw eagles, lots of them. I've only seen one flying over Lake Ontario on the Canadian side a few years ago. We got to see Whales in Alaska too..

@AranciataRoss We didn't see them from the ship but we took a side trip to a smaller boat that showed us a lot of them...

I wanted to do whale watching when we went to California but we couldn't make the trip out. Maybe if we do an Alaskan cruise we could see them.

I love to see the wildlife also! I haven't seen a bald eagle in a while but a lot of hawks flying around.

That must be a pretty sight! I get worried around here when I see one for my tiny chihuahua whom I walk with outside to make sure he is safe.

So many hawks!! There is one that lives near the school where I teach. It's so crazy to pull into a parking lot in the middle of the city and see this huge hawk sitting in a tree.

@AranciataRoss It is a nice way to see different animals you wouldn't otherwise see.

@just4him yes. My hiking buddy thinks it's funny. I always see them but she doesn't- I've seen turtles, frogs, foxes, TURKEYS even!

Oh that still sounds nice. We have a lot of wild areas here with plenty of animals. I went on a hike through one and saw a LOT of things.

Oh, wow! I can imagine! One day, I went to leave my apartment and there was a snake right at the front door. It was peering through the glass like it was impatiently waiting for me so we could leave together. This was just a thin, medium length garden snake though.
Do you know what kind of snake you saw as a child?

@AranciataRoss I am not sure, but It was huge and thick, it was wrapped around the limbs of a tree.

I am glad it was in a tree, away from you though!
