High Blood Pressure

I hate having high blood pressure. It makes me so nervous! I had hypertension before I started taking prednisone, and it only made it worse. Now I am on bp medication and I don't think it is working. Tonight, I took my bp and it was a little high. I took my bp medicine, sat down to blog for about an hour and took my bp again and it was 200/110! I started panicking. My husband woke up, told me I should calm down and go to bed. I was calm! I was completely calm until I saw my bp. Then I had to take 1/2 a Xanax to calm back down. My bp went down somewhat, and I think I'm ok now, but that was scary! I am definitely calling my doctor in the morning. Plus, he told me the FDA has new recommendations for pain pills, and cut mine by 1/3. So, my pain levels probably aren't doing anything for my bp. I just don't want to have a heart attack/stroke! For now, I think I will take my husband's advice and go to bed soon. The Xanax made me really sleep. Edit: It is 152/100 now :(

Mom and Dad both have high BP. Mom's get really high, like yours sometimes. Sometimes one combination of medication works, sometimes another. So if BP medicine is not working, you must absolutely consult your doc before it is too late. High BP also doesn't mean that there would be an attack or stroke, so keep a calm mind. Stress induces BP too. Keep cool and don't worry, the medicine will handle the rest

Watching what you eat along with medication can lower pressure. I know of persons who no longer need medication after overhauling their diet.

I hope you are doing well now. It's not a joke when you have high blood pressure.

I don't really know what is good and bad as regards BP. My husband takes medication for BP. I can imagine it is very worrying when it seems too high.

I deal with high BP too so I know how you feel. I have been to the ER a number of times because of it. I do take medication now but it is still not as low as it should be. I went to see a cardiologist and my heart is fine so that gave me some relief. I had a lot of blood work done last week. I see my cardiologist at the end of the month. Anxiety can raise your BP. 200/110 could lead to a stroke. Do you have any symptoms such as numbness in your face and arms, chest pain, shortness of breath? You need to get it undercontrol because BP that high for a long period of time can do damage to your heart and other organs.
