I find this totally weird

Ally and Boobear napping

I live alone, well, I do have a furmily but there aren't any 2leggers around, nope no winged 2leggers in here either, they're all flying around outside quite free. It's been over 38 years since I last had a room mate. Turns out I'm not much for domestic tasks which didn't go over well with the roomies and the boyfriend got abusive so I booked. Now I find that every morning when I get up I spend at least an hour whispering so I do not wake anyone. I even get as far as the kitchen to make coffee still whispering to Ally. Finally after the first couple sips of jo I realize I really do not have to whisper. My furmily doesn't mind when I talk so what's up with the whispering, right? Even after 36 years that habit persists, does anyone else do this when they are alone?

@rebelann Naah, if he's in earshot I either talk to him, or shut up.

@rebelann I don't need a reason to talk! But I can't do it in the small hours cos I'd wake 'himself' up.

It's a habit that is very hard to break. The worst part is that I didn't even know it had become a habit.

I whisper to Keith if he is up so that I don't wake the kids. I also tiptoe very quietly and try not to make any noises when I am opening cabinets, making coffee, etc. Of course, I live with 3 kids and a grown man. I have never paid any attention to how much noise I make when I am alone. I will have to monitor this and get back with you on it.

@rebelann Yeppers I am. The kids are like zombies.... they hear the least little sounds and if I want a bit of peace and quiet I keep quiet!

I don't have that excuse, there's no one around for me to wake except the kritters. I'll bet you're in the habit of being quiet when you first wake up.

I often talk to myself as trying out the sound and inflection of words for poems and speaking events - many people must think i'm even more nuts than usual

Well in that case perhaps a smaller pet that can travel with you when you're out and about @arthurchappell perhaps a rat, a friend of mine had one and told me they are easy to train, he kept it in his jacket pocket or tshirt pocket, I thought it was fascinating.

Lol! I don't have anyone to speak with if my husband is sleeping, but whisper to Doodles at home. My hubby is a light sleeper.

You just have to get used to it, might take time. I basically tip toe around my apartment because I don't want to be too loud for the people downstairs. I'm really paranoid about it. I wish I knew their schedule.
