What is going on around here?

Last month I worked hard to make the $5 dollars but fell short by $1 but hopeful that this month I would get there with ease. Not so. I have managed only 50cents in more than two weeks. Nothing seems to be moving. Is it me, I wonder? I cannot spend hours a day here, although I do make a point of keeping up with notifications and checking out the explore section for others who are new to me. I have read that some people have discovered a time when things move quickly, but I have yet to find that particular button. I prefer to write a post rather than comment, although I do both and I believe that writing a post enables others to earn from commenting. So it should be a win win situation. Correct me if I am wrong.

Writing a post (by which I assume you mean 'a discussion') allows YOU to earn when others respond/comment or otherwise interact with it. Nobody earns from their OWN responses/comments here (unless someone else interacts with the responses.comments). Once you get your head around that concept, it can be seen (as is stated in the Earnings Program FAQs) that whatever you post (discussions, responses or comments) only makes you eligible to earn: you don't actually earn anything until others interact with your post. It pays, therefore, to be 'interactive' yourself because that encourages (or should do, if you write in a particular way) others to interact with you.

I think that for the moment I will put to one side the pleasure of thinking up a new subject and writing about it. I have obviously got a lot of catching up to do now.

So the analysis from the above conversation comes that you have to interact and impress. Just let yourself free, whatever is in your mind just write..and see how "interactive " and expressing you become.

If you prefer to write a post and not to comment this is why you do not earn very much. I only write a few posts a month, but I visit the others and leave comments and for me the site it's not at all slow, I already have more than 15 dollars in my bank.

@JolietJake Yet there was that Sunday evening that I wasn't here but many others were and they all landed in one single response box on one of my posts and I got a lovely surprise when I cam back.

@JolietJake Of course this is the main key to success, if you are here only every few days for ten minutes it does not work.

I come here a while in the morning and then again in the afternoon and evening. I average 50-70 cents a day. I do notifications and responses to my followers posts.

@41CombedaleRoad .....I am retired and house bound. I put up all my work sites up in different tabs and then go back and forth. I take a break or two on Facebook.

Thank you deliriousinidaho51 for being so specific. I rarely manage three visits here, sometimes only one. But I am hopeful now that the time I do spend here will be more productive financially!

It's a fact that time spent here equals money. If we're not here we earn very little.

And now I think we need not only to be here but to do the most advantageous thing to earn the pence.

I think it needs both. How can I help someone if they don't post anything? I don't know why your bank would be moving so slowly.

I was under the impression that we were paid when we wrote something that someone was interested to read. Obviously now I realise that they have also to be interested enough to comment.

I think Judi that we just have to comment on their comments - if we can.

I have had a nice day thankyou although it has been a busy one. Washing, cooking, cleaning and watching a little TV. Several jobs not yet attended to. Now I'm here for a little while before I sort out the cats and go to bed. Sleep well.

@MarshaMusselman It is easier to sort out the socks than to sort out the cats! Since you are intrigued I feel I owe you an answer. Left to their own devices two of the cats will disturb us. So the male, Toby, has to be settled in the kitchen where he has his own cushion, the doors have to be shut properly or he will go looking for Lucy. Lucy needs to be sent upstairs where I can hear her and grab her if she gets up in the night and manages to go downstairs and starts banging on the door in order to wake me up to let her out. Minnie will settle quite comfortably on a chair in my study, she does not need much sorting out. she sorts herself. Does that help or have I made it more intriguing?

@41CombedaleRoad How many cats do you have that you have to 'sort them'? It sounds like you're sorting socks. Do the cats need to be sorted into different rooms for sleeping? I realize it's probably just a figure of speech type thing used where you live more than where I live. Not trying to pick on your speech. I just found the idea intriguing.

Well, it is not just you. This site many times does seem like it is taking forever to earn much in here. Maybe people are not as active in here right now?

I'm so glad someone else feels as I do and that it takes forever to reach that goal. By the sound of the responses some people are very active here. I can't spend too much time on the computer.

If I post 200 discussions and no-one responds on them then I will ean nothing, nothing at all. Why? Because what I do will earn me nothing at all. Only when others respond on my posts will I earn - but they won't. They will earn when I comment back to their response. If an exchange of comments takes place (a discussion within a discussion) then those taking part will earn time that someone else comments back to what they typed. On this discussion only those who have RECEIVED something as a response or a comment to what they posted have earnt something here.

@41CombedaleRoad If you enjoy conversation offline then those long strings of comments are the same, except that you can get back to them whenever you have time. Those who strt getting involved in them realise how much fin they are.

I have always avoided long strings of comments because I feel sorry for the ones who have very little comments on what they have written. So I go for them Hmmm.

Thank you for your faith in me too I don't understand why it is so difficult for so many people to understand that what THEY type will earn them nothing if no-one interacts with it and unless they go back and comment to those who do take time to respond or comment, then those people will earn nothing either. This site is for discussing (which does not only mean 'posting discussions' because discussing is possible in the individual response boxes too by commenting back and forth. Only by discussing (and it takes at least two people for that) will we see out bank going in the right direction.

@JolietJake It all sounds rather complicated to me but I guess I will learn to adjust and enjoy doing so if my money goes up accordingly. If not I shall probably shut down because I do confess that I enjoy writing about some subject or another that takes my fancy.

Thanks to so many comments I have changed my tactics. As a result the cents are growing faster than before, but I realise too that I have to spend more time and that is the snag...

When I have a block of time with which to interact I try to write a new post and then spend the rest of my time responding to the posts of others or even replying to some of the comments their posts generate. It's also good to reply to responses and comments left on your own posts. That shows the person that paid you a visit that you're willing to interact with what they said on your post. I don't earn as much as many do here because my time is more limited, but in the last month I've made one dollar. I have yet to get the five dollar mark within one month. Usually I can do it in two, but I have much to do at home to prepare for an upcoming surgery so I'm working to get those other things done while still being hopeful that I'll get to the minimum payout before the end of the month. I still have 1.22 to go and may not make it, but it's still to early to know. In the past three days alone I've already made almost fifty cents. That means that I've been active these past few day more than the other days of the month. Part of it is also getting to know those that tend to come visit you soon after you've visited with them. Most here will try to do that, but some are out working or shopping and get behind.

Then there is also the time differences to consider. At the time I am writing many of my American friends are having their breakfast whereas I am into supper time....

@41CombedaleRoad Yes, but that would mainly mean that they'd be finding your post possibly while you were sleeping and you might find your bank went up once you awaken or stop by later the next day. I like when my bank moves up a decent amount during my night, but it's not always the case and the amount it changed varies day by day. Other times it doesn't change in the night but later when I'm at work. If I've been around the site it will usually change sometime during the day unless I've hit one of the few dry spells.

From what some say it seems you make more by responding to other discussions and commenting on there than from posting a discussion and having others respond.

or something like that or not
Yes, you are wrong ... kind of. Their comments don't earn anything unless you (or someone) comments on them (and maybe not even then ... @GoAskAlice knows better than me). And (not counting the money you make on "tasks") your discussions only make money when people comment on (or maybe 'surf on'---I dunno). The 'clue' the FAQ gives is "The more that other myLot users interact with what you post, the more money it will make. If no one reads what you wrote, interacts with it, or otherwise considers it interesting, then you likely won't earn anything." http://www.mylot.com/mylot/earnings So the best way to 'win-win' here is to write keywords into your posts, and to only do one original discussion for every one-or-two comments you post.

All I know (and really not the expert here) is we are to be involved in conversations in order to earn. Just keep 'talking' a bit longer?

I'm sorry you are having so much difficulty making payout. Unlike others, who create multiple posts a day, I usually create one, sometimes two. I respond to all comments in my notifications. Sometimes life gets in the way, but I do try. When and if I catch up on the notifications, I go to my followers to see what new discussions have been made. Don't be discouraged. Some days I spend a few hours here, other days a few minutes. It eventually works out. Best of luck and I hope this helps.

I've found the pennies are made in the interaction, not in the post, though you need the post in order to have the interaction. So the more you comment, the more you will earn.

For me it's not the money but just making friends and chatting. I enjoy being here so don't mind spending more time visiting other people and commenting on their posts rather than writing them myself. I've done more writing this week than usual.
