I made this little monkey last year for my baby, as he was born in the year of Monkey. I remember posting a picture while I was working in progress where my little girl thought I was making a hat or bowl. I promised to show a picture of it after I have completed, but I always forgot about it. Here it is, finally. (I suddenly remembered about it as I am crocheting a cow for my eldest son - he was born in the Year of Cow/Ox). I always thought of not spending so much time crocheting, but learning more other skills to teach my eldest son for his homeschool lesson, I am still crocheting always. My next crochet project will be a dragon for my little girl. Picture by me: crocheted monkey for my baby

@MGjhaud Yes, YouTube is really a good place to learn. I learned how to knit and crochet from there, and get other tips too. I usually crochet while I am watching videos or webinars, as I can't really find time to just sit down and crochet.

Hi, I am good, just trying to find the balance among everything, especially spending time with kids, nursing the baby, cleaning and organizing my messy home, and trying to find time to come online too. How about you? Read the comment I wrote above for @prinzcy about how I started to crochet. It took me quite some time to learn how to crochet. I gave up, and "forced" to pick up my crochet hook again. I am glad I was forced, so now I can really enjoy crocheting. If there is no one to guide you personally, try to look for some basic crocheting videos online, I learned from YouTube. There are many videos for beginning, just try to pick one that you can understand easier and follow. Hope you'll be able to make one for your nephew. You won't regret once you have learned this skill. It's so much fun!

@brokenbee I will post the picture once I have done. Now I have just made the body, and at the head part. I hope I will be able to get it done in 3 days before my son's birthday.

That's so cute! Crochet is great because it's possible to shape things, to make things just as you want them. That's harder with knitting and it doesn't come out as nice. Your monkey is adorable.

Thanks. Yes, I agree with you. I couldn't make much toys for my kids when I only knew how to knit and I wished I know how to crochet so I can make more cute stuff for my kids. I am glad finally I was able to learn and make some toys too.

Thanks. I really never thought I can make things with my hands until recent few years. I started to learn all these about 5 years ago, after I had my first child, as I'd like to teach my kids all these handwork skills. Then I realized we don't really need any talent to learn, but just start to learn and practice. I am trying to learn more about gardening now, I know you are great at gardening.

@allknowing Yes, I agree with you. We all have different talents or perhaps interests. I am glad I have developed these interests as I never thought I would. Being a mother really helps me learn a lot.

Thanks. Yes, it's been quite some tome when I was making that project. Now that I am crocheting a cow, my little girl also thinks I am either making a hat, a bowl or a bag/pouch. I guess the animals have all these similar parts.

I know you are always busy with something. Yes, it's really nice to build something with our hands. I just learned how to crochet in these few years, and I really love it. I wonder what I did for my past 30 years.

@kaka135 You make cute little things when you crochet. I really wasn't that creative although I made up my own patterns.

@JudyEv Then you are very creative! I am just follow others' patterns most of the time. I make all these cute things because they are for my kids. That's also my motivation to crochet. As I am staying in tropical country, I don't crochet or knit clothes, so I always just make some toys for my kids.

Thanks. I still have the few first "items" I crocheted and they are totally not what I wanted to make too. I gave up and continued to knit some toys for my children until I really needed to crochet a hair cap for a doll I knitted, then I tried to learn how to crochet again. I attempted 3 times until I can finally get the hair cap almost done, though not really rightly done, I started to know how to crochet.... There started my crocheting journey. I just want to try to inspire you to pick up your hook and yarn again. Are you from Malaysia too? I think there aren't many people crocheting or knitting here, it's good that you tried before. I never knew about crocheting until recent few years.

Very cute and very well made also. Love the pink colour. My Granddaughter was born last year in the Year of the Monkey. She is a little cutie.

Thanks. My baby boy is actually too young to play with it yet, though he also likes it. But it seems like my two elder kids like it better, so they asked me to make a cow and dragon for them.

Toys made with their own hands are always better than those bought in the store.

Thanks. Yes, I think that too. It always helps to teach the kids to do things on their own and also learn not to simply spend money too.

As I had said, you sure are a talented lady who could crochet, write and do programming plus homeschooling your kids at the same time, by the way, very cute baby monkey!

How cute! I think it is wonderful you crochet so much. It is a nice hobby. I wish I could take more time and learn to crochet patterns. Do you sell them or just coming for your own pleasure?
