Spring Balcony Gardening

Today, I decided to sit down and begin organizing my seeds for spring planting. The tree outside my window has buds and my mums "wintered" well in their pot, already pushing up new leaves. I don't have access to an actual lot for in ground planting so I rely on containers for my nice sized balcony.
I decided to start with the seeds so that I can see what to plant together for maximum efficiency and productivity. I currently have 8 pots on my balcony, 9 if I count my lollipop mums.
Right now I'm torn between continuing to use these 8 pots vs getting a few raised planters to streamline planting and creating a more pleasing look.
Over the next few days, I'll be posting more about this process. Feel free to chime in with what you know!!

@AranciataRoss Gardening is my hobby, but you do need a house with a bit of ground.

@jaboUK Absolutely. My biggest expense right now is purchasing soil. However, I also don't have to deal with many pests beyond the devilishly destructive squirrels.

Oh my! That is gorgeous! I hope to have a flower garden one day, likely whenever we buy a house. Your garden reminds me of my grandmother's and brings back many pleasant memories.

I have 28 plants inside my apartment and now it is that time of the year. What time? The Dollar Tree stores have seeds (4 packs for a $1), fertilizer, potting mix, soil, planters, etc. You name it they have it and probably cost 90% less than when you are paying!! I have been doing this for a decade now and the veggies, flowers are super every year!

I love when Dollar Tree puts out their garden stuff!! I only get tools from there now, though. I used to get soil from there but I was having trouble with weeds, mushrooms and GNATS!!

True. My next steps are to consider my soil options and whether to purchase pre-mixed potting soil or make my own.
The only plant I'm not growing from seed this year is strawberries. I've tried previously with random strawberry plants from hardware store but didn't have good results.
