What talent do you rate most highly?

I complemented Susan (@sueznewz2) on being able to design and make jewellery. I said I thought she was very talented. In return, she thought it was pretty cool that I could write doggerel. We had a real mutual admiration society going on. It made me think about the various talents myLotters have. Some paint, some sew, some write, some have incredible people skills, some cook. But is there a ranking for 'talent'? Is one to be more admired than another? Is decorating a wedding cake higher up the ladder of talent than, say, writing a song? Or are they equal? What do you think? I know what I think and it's this. Any talent I don't have is higher up the scale than any small talent I might aspire to. And anyone who can do stuff I find really difficult is incredibly talented in my eyes. The photo is of a baby's shawl I crocheted.

Your shawl is lovely. I tend to appreciate more those skilled in arts where I am not skilled at all. I can cook, decorate cakes, crochet and sew, paint, but I have zero talent in music.

@JudyEv I also love the trickier craftwork. I have saved some YouTube video to make some little things and I am procrastinating, may be with the better season I will do something.

@LadyDuck I save all sorts of recipes but in the end I never make any of them. Sometimes Vince does though so it's not all bad news.

@JudyEv i don't like that when i enter a room, i immediately notice a painting is tilted, but of course i never say anything! seriously, though, you're one of the multi-talented people i admire here. i also think some talents (gift/skill/ability however it's called) are not visible or have visible/audible/touchable results. i think they're called soft skills, but we mostly like seeing results that can be measured or admired. uh-oh, i guess i've gone way off-tangent here.

@hereandthere And some people never, ever got lost. They always know where north is or which way back to their hotel or whatever. Whereas some only need to turn around and they get muddled. And I don't think you joke poorly at all Anyway, better to joke poorly than to never joke at all.

Anything that has a needle in it I am nowhere near it. I do not think one has to grade talents.Having said that, from a practical point of view that which brings in fame and wealth could perhaps be considered as talent that would be placed higher than others. Just my thinking.

I admire those skilled in arts where I have zero talent so music, painting and sculpture are outstanding talents to me

Yes, it seems an extra special talent if I have absolutely none of it. Sculptors have my utmost admiration and there was a Catholic priest in the northern part of Australia who designed a heap of churches including a cathedral. Mostly he built them himself with the aid of modern-day machinery. He could also sculpt and draw so was highly talented in many areas. Some people seem to be given many more 'gifts' than is fair.

I'm a jack of almost all trades. I can do quite a few things well, except knit and crochet, only because I never learned. I wish I had performing arts talent. Love the baby shawl and the color. I made a baby quilt. I surprised myself.

I might be able to crochet but I am SO bad at sewing. I can't even hems hankies straight. My hands and feet don't coordinate it seems and my foot goes down as I get anxious and then I nearly run over my fingers.

Your shawl is lovely, and I value functional art over other skills, but being able to raise food for consumption is also valuable. Gardeners rock!

@xFiacre In Aussie rules football, they run with the ball of course but there was this one player, he was so fast but he could stop and turn in a heartbeat and leave the others floundering. I liked watching him.

To be very honest and seeing the way things are around us, I would rate "Humanity" as the highest. Sad isn;t it? Something that should be ingrained and instinctive is now I am seeing as a "talent"? Like something to achieve??

Oh that is a difficult question. I don't think any are higher than any others. There are ones I like more, but that's just personal preference. I knew this one woman who danced. Her husband lamented that he didn't have any art skills. She told him he did - he liked to build things out of wood/repair boats. I think she was right, it, too is an art.

I think that all talents are equal but each one gets a significant value over the other because of circumstances. As for my own talents - I consider throwing sarcastic remarks and insults as a talent that I'm good at. Also, I put the pro in 'procrastinate' so yeah, I'm good in those areas!

I don't think any talent is better than another. We can enjoy them all. Of course, in this world some talents earn a lot more money than others. A plumber can charge a fortune while a writer may starve.
