Why do people ask "how are you?" every day?

I personally dislike it when people ask me every day "how are you?". I find it to be annoying. Do people ask you that question every day? Lately, I am very irritable and it seems to me that anything that people ask me is annoying even though their intentions are not bad. I suppose this has something to do with certain frustrations existing in my life. Are you irritable generally or not?

They are probably trying to be polite. I don't ask that question to anyone. Sometimes, I get irritated especially if I lack hours of sleep.

And you're probably that same person that when if you make eye contact with a stranger in public, they smile or ask how are you? And you ignore them ?

I know that they are trying to be nice. But I don't think I like them being too nice. Nice is fine as long as it is not too much.

It could be a normal gesture just like a Good Morning or a good night. Sometimes, this is a way to initiate conversation. But some people just have this habit of saying how are you too often, which could be irritating.

That question is asked as an ice breaker ,to initiate a conversation with someone whom we are only acquainted with. No I do not feel irritated by this generally.

In my workplace, my manager will daily ask "How are you"? One day I replied--"Just like I was yesterday"

They ask everyday because they are not with us during night, so they try to check up whether something untoward happened with us after they last met us. I do not mind if someone asks me how are you, every other day.
