During my free modeling course, before I set foot on a runway, I learned so many things. You would be surprised at some of the less obvious. These few things I use in my every day life.
1. Seating yourself properly in various chairs
2. What to do with your hands while seated
3. What to do with your legs while seated
4. How to gracefully arise from a seated position
5. How to get in and out of a car properly
6. How to properly set place settings at a table for various meals
7. How to walk down a flight of stairs gracefully without tripping
I wish they had taught me how to walk up a flight of stairs without tripping. At least no one saw me do that at home while carrying a laundry basket. Not a pretty sight!
8. Walking. Yes, walking!
Photo is of my granddaughter with the big, lavender bow at a party.

Your grand daughter is extra cute with the lavender bow!
I always leave my hands awkwardly in photos! I need to read some pointers on where to put them!

@DianneN Hehhe I can see from your photos though when you stand too I'll get my pointers there. I hope everything is okay there for your son! I have seen pictures of Dubai, such a beautiful and luxurious place to visit.

@infatuatedbby Lol! No peeking! He will do what he has to do there and punish a lawyer. Then he has to give all the lawyers there a lecture in a conference room about noncompliance.

We learned these things in home economics class not sure why but the teacher we had at the time thought it was something we should know. Maybe she was into modeling, not sure.
The granddaughter has the most gorgeous big brown eyes.

I think it's important for all young girls to know. Glad you learned it. I learned how to make a white sauce in 8th grade home ec. Lol! Haven't made it since.
Thank you. She has the longest eyelashes, next to her brother, I've ever seen.

Your granddaughter is so pretty she could be a model herself.
Back in the day ladies always had to take such classes. I don't think it would be a bad idea to bring such etiquette back into schools so that women at least know how to act like a classy lady in case the need ever arises.

@DianneN All the more reason why we need it! It may help them later in life when they go for a lunch interview, or if they land a good job and have to go to a fancy dinner at the boss's house!

Thank you. She modeled when she was an infant and models figure skating warm up clothes. Her mommy won't do anything else. Too many stage mothers out there.
I agree that etiquette is sorely missing in the youth and young adults today. Then, again, look at their parents. :/

We had a teacher named Muriel who used to give us lessons on etiquette and those lessons have stood me in good stead even now.
Remember to wear flip flops while walking up and down the stairs specially when you are carrying your laundry basket and not high heeled shoes (lol)

Nope, not really @DianneN apparently many here aren't that familiar with manners. Ummm, I almost forgot, no one taught me how to sit properly either although the idea of our legs being properly placed so as not to take "pictures" was something dad told mom to teach me.

I remember when I was in school that they taught a few of these things. I thought it was fun balancing a book on the top of our head and walking.

@DianneN I don't think public schools do these types of things anymore.

@Tampa_girl7 No, they don't. It ended years ago. There is a heavy concentration on only academics.

Dianne, I have also fallen up the stairs, all I could think was oh lawdy! @DianneN , being graceful is tougher than one thinks. I still get confused about table settings. Your granddaughter looks lovely with that lavender bow in her hair!

Walking up stairs is an underrated risk. I have tripped more than once with no laundry basket.

Very cute photo!!
Oh gosh, I don't know if I really know any of those things . . . I just do what I do (which I probably why I look like a dork!). I think I learned to properly set the table in home ec . . . but that was so long ago (and probably only for an everyday home table setting).

Your granddaughter is lovely. My mom always had me wear big bows too. I wanted to become a model at one time and spend quite a lot of money on lessons but never got to realize my dream.

I was never taught any of that, but I do know how you're supposed to sit in a chair, I rarely sit like that though. I love the movie Princess Diaries where Julie Andrews taught her granddaughter the proper way to do all that. Walking without tripping, yeah, I've done it, twice in the apartment with disastrous results. My ribs are now healed from the last incident.

@DianneN In public is where I put everything I know into practice. Right now my feet are crossed at the ankles, but they are not to the side of my chair . Though I'm doing my best to sit up straight in my chair, that proves difficult on most occasions, I've always been hunched when I'm working on anything.

indeed, when you are a model, you should also have the proper etiquette, like the proper way of crossing the legs. well, we should cross with our ankles and not our knees, right?

@DianneN i usually comment on my students when they sit with nearly knees open, that their underwear or shorts can be seen.
