A Splash of Color

I like to play around a bit with my photography - just to keep things interesting. The rose shown here was taken in the parking lot of my office complex during lunch one day. The driveway has a median with many of these rose bushes, along with iris' and other flowers. I took this shot but wasn't quite thrilled with it when I got home so I decided to play. I loaded it into Photoshop, added an adjustment layer with a mask. I desaturated the layer and then masked the one rose to let the color through.
Once I had the image masked off, I saved a few different versions - each time changing the color of the flower. I have red, purple, orange and yellow. I created this image when I was still fairly new to Photoshop and the mask could use a bit of work but it's only really noticeable if you look real close - don't look real close. :-)
Have you ever tried this technique? If so, I would love to see what you did.

Thank you! It is a lot easier than you may think. This is a simple example but it can be quite spectacular when used correctly.

Vince has started using these sorts of techniques. It is amazing what you can do. And this is lovely.

If you want to try your hand at editing you could try downloading GIMP. It is free and virtually as powerful as Photoshop.

The rose stands out against the gray. I love the effect.
But I prefer what I get while taking pictures and I do not make changes.
