I want to marry a rich guy.

While traveling in a Delhi metro train yesterday, me and my wife heard interesting conversation between three young girls who were around 18-20 years of age and were cousins. All three were immaculately dressed, were wearing nice make up and were beautiful. Let's call them A, B, C A - I haven't done breakfast, I wish Arjit (may be her bf) was here to help us to take us for breakfast in a restaurant. B & C - Yes, I also wish the same. A - I would love to marry Arjit if he becomes little slim and get a better figure. B &C - Do you like him so much? A - Yes, he is very wealthy and speaks fluent English. You know these two things (money and English speaking) could do wonders. I don't mind even if he is unable to complete his graduation. B & C - Yes, money is everything. A - If I get married to Arjit, I will give golden rings to both of you. B& C - we wish you marry him sooner than later.(giggling) A & B - I want to go to a water park and a mall some day, we will ask our boy friends to take us there in their car. But our parents might object. C - I will manage, I know how to convince my father, it is for both of you how do you convince your parents. A, B &C - Life is for enjoyment and we must enjoy. By the time, our station had come. We both were laughing on their conversation and we were thinking where the present generation is heading to? And was it appropriate on their part to converse loudly in Metro train, where everybody around them was able to listen to them. Your experiences and thoughts on the attitude of present generation.

You got a laugh (and a discussion) from their conversation so I think that you should be really pleased that they spoke loud enough to be overheard You are going to get richer from that conversation than any of them will do for sure

Yes, you got it absolutely right that we (me and my wife) had good entertainment for nearly half an hour and I converted their amusing conversation in this discussion. They may or may not get rich guys as their life partners but I will be able to generate few cents from their conversation.

@mysdianait Yes, I wish I could. We both felt like interrupting their rosy conversation and wanted to tell them - "Look! You have misplaced notions about getting married to rich guys" but we kept quite because people don't appreciate unsolicited advice.

It seems to me that the younger generations are becoming more and more spoiled. Not to mention more absent minded when it comes to manners. I think they could have been quieter. Others on the train may have wanted to nap or read, or even catch up on work. Their conversation obviously distracted you so I am sure it was loud enough to be heard by many of the passengers on the train. However, my mother used to joke that she would have loved to marry a rich man and own a big farm of dogs. I knew this was only a joke. I fear those young girls on the train are not joking.

You visualize the scene in the best possible manner. They could have been quitters, instead of speaking loudly and bragging about themselves. This shows that they lack basic manners and were least careful about people around them. Little did they know that money is not everything in life and those who earn a lot have ironically little time to enjoy their money. The instance you quoted about your mother is quite amusing. Many of us think like that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, you are right that dreaming and facing realities of life are two different things. They might get rich men as their partners but perhaps at this stage of their life, they are not aware that everything comes at a price.

@dpk262006 Yes, it is fine to "wish" and "dream" of riches, but another thing entirely to set about getting said riches! Those girls will soon learn that money isn't everything. I don't think they will get any men who are rich anyway. I just hope they will learn to be less self centered.

I believe I have become too old to understand the young generations. They have no values, they only want money so that they can do nothing and have fun. This is nothing good.

Yes, you are right that they didn't have manners and no vakues. We were also shocked to hear their conversation that they are after rich guys, money and some fun and frolic, without realizing what are the realities of life.

@dpk262006 It is so bad to think to get married only for the money. I am not surprised there are so many divorces in our days.

It means that girls living in your city also follow the same path and they think that wealth, money and English speaking guy would be best suited as their life partner. It is really shocking that school girls hang up with rich guys, then they (read rich guys) exploit them and end result turns out to be shocking.

@amandajay Yes, I fully agree with your views. You hit the nail on the head. If a girl considers that money is everything and money could buy all her happiness, then she is living in a fool's paradise. In the long run, she would realize her mistake.

It seems that today the youngs are much more practical. I hope there are still not many people who think so. It is a horrible thought, getting rich without any efforts. And the marriage is a very important thing for everybody. I can't say that marrying to a rich person will be the best choice. At first you shall love him/her, otherwise your rest life may be boring. And nobody can guarantee that this marriage will last till the end.

Yes, you are very right that there could be some whose main target is money only. They want to have a rich guy as a partner, without thinking that everything comes at a price and as you have rightly said that if there is no love between a couple, money cannot replace love and bonding.

@dpk262006 In fact even if this gril wants to marry to a rich man, it is not easy. There can be many pretty girls around him. And she has to win this man's parents, too. Marrying to a rich man is not an easy task

Young generation is always strange for elders. We were strange for our elders. About the incidence you are talking about I would like to say that you can not apply it for all the new generation. I think it depends on many things like family back ground, education, their surroundings, friend circle etc.

@Bodyandbrain My intention was to indicate about those people, who think that if a guy is very rich and has lots of money, it will automatically bring happiness in their life. May be they are more concerned about their material needs rather than closeness and bonding with their life partner.

@optimisticbeauty You are welcome. :) You have very rightly pointed out the one's conduct also matters and how he much he pays respects to people around him. If a girl is after a wealthy guy and does not try to see his other traits, then she may feel dejected in the long run. You are young and new to mylot but I must appreciate the way your express yourself. Your views are really appreciable.

@dpk262006 Thank you so much :) And yes I believe other things which are equally important are his behavior towards her wife, parents, people who are above him as well as below him. His mindset is equally important. His way of thinking towards life and many more things are there. I believe if a girl only approaches him because of his being wealthy and his fluency in English and not knowing the other things about him , after some time more or less she will get disappointed

This is insane, these guys don't understand that looks and wealth won't stay forever, but love will. Because of this attitude if you could survey you will know the divorce rate has increased drastically. People are becoming more mechanical, and heres the result. They forgot the value of love.

Private conversations be done at home and not loudly at public place. Even if we were strangers to them and they were least bothered about us or other passenger in the coach, it simply shows that they were lacking in etiquette and manners.
