Did it really snow in San Francisco CA today?

Yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, I was sitting at my desk at home when I heard a peculiar sound outside. It was hailstones bouncing off my my table and any other surfaces that were available. When I went outside, I noticed that it was really cold out (by coastal California daytime standards)--maybe 40 degrees F (approximately 4.5 degrees C). It didn't occur to me (at the time) that cold and hail at my house might mean snow on nearby 3850 ft. Mt. Diablo. Today at work, after turning in five progress notes, I glanced up at Mt. Diablo and noticed that there was snow there above 3300 feet or so. I decided in that moment what I was doing with my afternoon kid client today. He is eight-years-old and told me he had never actually touched snow before. We built a (10") snowman, had a snowball fight (butt shots only), and managed to hike a mile in and a mile out without falling, in spite of the mud. We even got "sleeted" upon for a few seconds. It was a good day.

I see the snow on the hills around us, we had an earthquake yesterday, no damages but a bit of scare.

@TheHorse It was not a very strong quake 4.3 the first and then another 8 shakes all of about the same power. I do not believe that you would enjoy a "real" earthquake, one of those that throw down your home.

Interesting! How powerful was it? I enjoy earthquakes, but haven't experience a "big one." I lived in Iowa in 1989.

I'll take the rain! But the soil is tired of absorbing it, and we're getting a few landslides now.

We had a great time. But he was worried his mom would be mad at him for getting his shoes and pants wet and dirty. I assured him she'd probably understand.

He was. But he got a little bit scared on the winding road on the way up. I assured him that I'm "the best driver in the world, especially with a kid in the car."

Ours was small too. But it stuck for a couple of minutes. I took a picture, but deleted it in favor of hike pictures from yesterday.

Sounds like you had a great day in the snow. I heard LA got snow yesterday. Quite unusual for LA.

And for me as well. He complained a bit about the cold, but starting chirping to his mom about the things we did as soon as we got to his house.

@TheHorse That's always a good sign. Sometimes kids don't give much indication that they've enjoyed something but you find out later they couldn't stop talking about it.

Yes! I think my parents took me to see a bit in the High Sierra when I was VERY young, but I remember seeing more in Switzerland when I was four.

The top of Mt. Diablo gets dusted with snow maybe two or three times a Winter. I've never seen snow at my house, though.
