WHY FOLLOW ME?.

Can anyone enlighten me on the true purpose of followers? What does the follower or the followed get out of it? Is it a feather in the cap when one can boast of having hundreds of followers - but then, what do they really do? When I last checked my followers totaled 119 - and about half of that amount have never responded to a discussion of mine. That is why I am wondering - why follow me in the first place?

I check on the people that answer my posts. Sometimes I follow someone whose posts get me interested usually.

I like the feature here under follows at the top left of the page, You can see their discussions makes it easier for me to follow discussions I may have missed.

@Kandae11 Probably because they thought they would make easy money without working at it.

I see, it does make sense then - that feature is very handy. but I still wonder why some follow and never respond.

This is a cliched observation. You get to read posts of those you follow under the tab 'follows'. And those who follow you will get to read your posts under that tab.

@Kandae11 I have 659 followers and hardly a few will respond. This has been a question for which no one has the answer.

@allknowing Won't it be nice to have at least 200 responses on each post?

I know. My question is why follow someone if you don't plan on reading or commenting on their posts.

I only follow people I find interesting (this includes you) but I can't understand the logic behind following someone but never reading or commenting

That is what I find difficult to understand - why follow someone if you don't find them interesting? (thank you - same here) .

I followed people base on their discussion's and ideas. I don't just follow them because I like them. Also I want to be a friend to them.

I keep checking the posts of my followers and whom I follow and make it a point to respond to those posts, which appeal to me.

To avoid clutter I am wondering if it won't be best to delete those who have never once responded.

I do follow some people but I do not really use the following feature anymore. I used to go and see what was new from those I follow but I found from the old mylot not many were still active when I came back soon now I just go to recent discussions of all mylotters. Once in awhile since do follow someone and I will sometimes check new discussions from those on the list I follow.

@Kandae11 I respond to a lot of discussions each day by Mylotters that I'm not "following"

me too, i have followers, but not all follow me, so just stick to my idea that i can follow somebody who is not a follower.
While I was taking my bath, I saw some black ants moving a trail down from the shower curtain. They were just about 10 black ants and they seem to be following...

@Kandae11 just to add more numbers, i think, that is why even those who don't follow me but interacts with me, i reciprocate.

Well, the hopes of people responding back to your post. But some people don't do that. Probably my fault my post sucks these days.

Have more confidence in yourself. There are many good posts which receive very little response.

I think followers can easily see our posts but we cannot force them to respond or comment to it. It is also the same with me and maybe with many others here, I have many followers but not all of them responds to my discussions.

It is the same with mine...i think the people who join mylot not fully understanding it tend to make the mistake of thinking that if they follow someone..the person will follow them back. It is possible they have misunderstood its purpose from other social media sites ...where people follow each other for no reason. There are only a handful of people who have always responded to my posts. Many of my "followers" are no longer active on mylot. It might help if mylot deactivated the accounts that are not active. Of the thousands registered...there might barely be a few hundreds that are active here regularly. I am only following 13 people so far.

I think the follow thing is so your posts show up in their "Follows" tab on the upper left hand bar. That said I don't know why people would just follow and not visit....
