Ants in the Kitchen

Tonight we are hosting our last house concert for the summer. We were up at 5.30am and walked into the kitchen to find it - full of tiny ants. I blame @Koalemos for this as he has been saying that @JolietJake's ants were all congregating ready to embark to Donnybrook, Western Australia, to invade us and all because I threatened to take flame-thrower to the bull-ants which bit my toe three days ago.
I hope the ants are not the forerunners of other problems. As you can imagine, I won't be here much today. During the interval the audience gets free tea, coffee and chocolate-apricot slice. The photo shows the slice. Some say they only come for the slice but I think they're telling fibs.

Baking soda, mixed with some icing sugar is a safe way to get rid of ants...I could tell you how it works but without getting graphic....the ants can't burp or fart...and the mixture gives them gas.

@Platespinner I'm sure you're just interested in what happens - from a scientific perspective.

I had an ants invasion in the kitchen two days ago. I blame the warm temperature, because they get out of hibernation and look for food. Anyway I have immediately put ants traps in every corner of the kitchen and they are all gone by now.

This is the advance scouting party gathering information for their American cousins. You only have yourself to blame, you should learn to treat Mother Nature with respect.
By the way, I did not receive a notification for this because Koalemos is my screen name. You need to use the officially registered username for a tag.

Sorry about the tag. I actually know that so I can only blame the ants for fogging my brain. Do you think bull-ants are actually part of Mother Nature's plan? Did you see my toe? Do you think Mother Nature would allow one of her subjects to do that to someone who saves skinks?

I'd be an ant as well just to partake of that chocolate-apricot slice!

Any sweet dish is always kept on a water moat. This is routine in our household

@JudyEv It is a routine here, certain times in the year and I have a solution. I also spray NOTIX a very effective but mild insecticide.

Yes. If there is 100 people expected I make four. Last night we were probably left with about half full slice left over.

We have that tiny ant problem in the kitchen each summer. We have to spray each year to keep them at bay. When they show up, it always discourages me.

@JudyEv I agree, too many to count and just when I think they are gone, many more appear.

@JudyEv - Ms Judy - My goodness - that is surely one fine-looking cake in your photo. Early on in my days of putting "Dumb Poems" to paper, I observed some ants making free in my bride's kitchen. That led to the birth of a five-liner that went into "Mother Gus."
WISDOM
There once was an old sugar bowl
whose sugar leaked out from a hole.
The ants learned right fast
that sweet times do not last,
so they swallowed as soon as they stole.
Al Kaeppel made the illustration for the rhyme
