Time to say goodbye to my dear friend

My dog Cookie

Cookie is my last dog. She is 17 and for the past week she has been drinking tons of water, won't eat, won't play, stumbles, and acts like she feels bad. I talked to the vet this evening and she said it's probably time to help her cross over to the other life. I agree, although it's very painful for me to say goodbye. It's my last act of love for my dear friend, to help her die peacefully and painlessly. So this will happen Monday and I'll probably be a wreck. My granddaughter knows something is up because I was calling the vet and she asked me if I was calling Jesus for Cookie. What a sweetie! I've been talking to her whenever it's appropriate to insert such a subject that Cookie will soon be gone and I hope it helps her deal with it. The picture is of Cookie when she was around 4. She's actually much cuter than that!

I am so sorry that it is time to let Cookie go. It is the last good thing you can do for Cookie to not let her go on suffering. You should try to console yourself by knowing that you have done her a great act of kindness and love.

Yes, I keep telling myself that but it won't help for quite awhile.

Thank you, it was a peaceful end and I was hugging her when she left. We should all have such an easy passage.

Yes, I will. I should have done it a few days ago. By the time it was time to go, I had to carry her, she could not walk. But the last day was good, we snuggled a lot and it was as good a farewell as I could have expected.

I feel your pain. I am sure it was a good life. it's always hard to let go...and harder to make the decision to help her cross over. Your granddaughter sounds very sensitive. So sweet.

It's for cookie's good only. What you want, let cookie live here in pain or happily in other life? It's ok dear , nothing last forever . I'm experienced.

You know your pet and you know when is the time to bid her goodbye. We have gone through this a couple of times and I quite understand what you are going through. It is better that way than see them suffer.

It does sound like she's having some mini strokes @dragon54u . Or it could possibly be Diabetes. You may want the vet to check her sugar level. 17 is an excellent age in today's world considering most dogs are now only living from 10-13 because of all the chemicals in their foods. I'm so sorry about Cookie.

Thank you, she's having some guests to day to say goodbye. She has a lot of friends, everyone who has met her loves her. I agree about the chemicals. I've always tried to feed her well.
