How To Ask for A Raise ?

Hello everyone ! I graduated from my university in 2014 and got a job in my current office (private sector) immediately. Now I have been working here for about 2.5 years. I was initially hired at a Junior position, but within a month the bosses sort of promoted me and started giving me my individual projects. I am a top performer in my office. My bosses like me and I love my work. I basically love that office. The only sad thing about my job is - THE SALARY. I feel that with the type of work that I have been delivering, I should be paid much more that what they give me currently. I mean I manage my own projects, I manage my own team...not bragging - but I even have a guy who is 4 years senior to me in the field working under me - in my team !! And the best part is - my bosses know all this. They know that I am good with my work and also that I am gullible, stupid and won't fight much if they don't give me a proper raise. It's not that they don't reward me - last year they gave me 25% increment - the highest in the office. I was happy - but that is not enough. How do I tell them that what they give me is not enough. My peers in other office are getting a lot more than I am and they are not even as good as me. I mean I feel exploited. I don't want to fight with my bosses - I only want to tell them that this is not okay and I feel exploited. Any help on the topic is appreciated !! :(

I don't have the option to ask for a raise at this job but have in the past and my sister got 3 quite big raises over an 18 month periodshe's an expert...she moves jobs fast and always for quite a salary bump and always leaves on good terms. What, in my opinion, you have to do is approach it like you're starting a business. Do a lot of research. Find equivalent posts in other companies and look at how much they pay their staff. When you say you are good make sure you have the proof to back you up...such as documenting your achievements etc. Asking for a raise is not a bad thing but doing it the right way is tricky.

@Mike197602 I already love your sister !! I wish I had the same guts and brains to do it in a tricky way. I always end up being emotional and stupid !

I tend to think that bosses still want to pay less and hire the best employees. There are less generous employers. You can see whether you can find another better job. Sometimes quitting the current job and finding another is the fastest way to increase your salary. Of course it is better for you to find it and then quit it.

@youless That is exactly the situation ! Nobody wants to spend money from their pockets. They want people with 3-4 years of experience but they are only willing to pay a fresher's salary. It's so not correct !!

Well, what they used to suggest to people and I am sure it still works is write up some type of proposal. Review your good strengths there, and some of the reasons you feel you are an asset to the company, and maybe try and find someone in your department who can vouch for you. Then just casually bring up that you feel you would like to be considered for a raise, and how much you are seeking. Remember do not start out too high or it could cause conflict but ask high enough so their is Bargaining room if need be. Wishing you the Best.

i am a CI for 13 years now, and since i am part-time employee, i have my salary if and when i work;hence, no work, no pay. you are lucky because you can ask additional salary from your boss because of communication.

If your bosses think that you are gullible and won't fight much - then surprise them - ask them for a raise.

@sffnali I did tell them on a few occasions. But every time they tell me that they can't go against company rules and increase my salary mid year. And when the time comes for yearly increment, they told me that even they have to show on records...they can't give a 50% increment to any employee.

If you do not ask you will never get a raise. Write a letter to your boss, and tell him what you are telling us here. If he refuses, then I think it will be time for you to look for another job.
