The confusion around "like" buttons.

I am using social media a lot for business and personal use. The "like" button has always been a bit of an irritation to me, especially if it is the only response option. Facebook has done it for years and finally realized that more options were necessary. Now, here is the irritation: A lot of people, including myself, use the "like" button a lot as an acknowledgement. At times clicking the "like" button is basically just to say: "I have read or seen your post". You don't want to respond but you also don't really like the post, but how else are you going to let the person know you have seen/read the post? In my opinion all social media sites should have an option called "read" or "seen" or something like that. So, if me pressing the "like" button at times and it doesn't make too much sense considering the post, just remember this: It is very likely that it is just a confirmation that I have read the post/discussion and nothing more.

I would love to have a seen/read button on here, as that's honestly how I use the like button, helps me track what I have Seen/read

Exactly! More of a tracking tool than anything else. Perhaps myLot can be the 1st social-like site to implement it.

I was about to write a post about "likes" on a comment , I needed some answers and they have been furnished by @Joliet Jake response in this discussions. I have found my notifications flooded by likes for my comments on the posts of other members - but the particular member who does the flooding - rarely comments on or likes any of my discussions So if I understand it correctly, there is some payment for these likes and that would explain it.

I think generally, people strike button only after reading the post.
