Is everyone truly Irish on St.Patrick's day?

Happy St.Patrick's day I wish you all even though I have not one ounce of Irish heritage. I thought it would be a good topic for today to ask: what is your heritage? Here in the US. we have quite the variety of nationalities. Of course I take an interest in these things and sometimes have been told rather bluntly that the person in question is "American". I mean no offense with my question. I think diversity is a beautiful thing and that knowing ones roots at least a little, is fascinating. Of course there are some people who don't know their background and there is nothing wrong in that either. :-) So! I'll start. Simple answer: German and English (5th generation or 6th) Complex answer - German, English, Cornish, Devon, Norwegian. * Cornwall and Devon are places in England where my ancestry is from and the Norwegian bit - we are unable to tell if he was actually from Norway or simply moved there from Germany. Happy St.Patrick's Day!
Early Irish-American immigrants couldn't foresee the St. Patrick's Day celebrations of today: Hoards of drunken people elbowing their way to the bar for another green Bud Light.

I was born in Guyana, South America - a country with close ties to its Caribbean neighbors. My grandfather is from an island in the Caribbean and there is much inter- marriage in the islands.

St Patrick's Day seems to turn many people into Irish for the day.

All four grandparents were from Russia. I'm Irish only every St. Patrick's Day.

@FayeHazel There is a lot of every thing in Australia - but not many Australians! That's probably an exaggeration but over the years we have had huge numbers of immigrants from a great many countries. The Germans in my heritage would have been my great great ancestors.

Interesting! My (ex) fiancé told me that there are actually a lot of German in Australia. That's something I hadn't known.

I have zero Irish in me. No matter how far you go all my descendants on my mom and dad's side of the family are Scottish. On St. Patrick's day I do celebrate with all the Irish folks.

30% Irish. Or so says AncestryDNA. Interesting factoid, you may already know. We get 50/50 between both parents. So 50% from one, 50% from the other. However, that doesn't mean we get an even split of their heritage... On my father's father's side, my tenth grandfather came from Ballycastle, Co Antrim, Ireland. I've got irish on my mom's side as well...

Oh that is interesting. I knew the 50/50 thing, but I didn't know that we may not get an even split of heritage. Wow 10 grandfather's back... that is a long way!

I have heard some Jewish folk can trace their lineage back to which of the 12 Tribes of Israel. That must be exciting.

I knew of Albania, but I am humiliated to say that I needed to search for it to find exact location. Looks like it is beautiful there!
