What is it with crows?!

I used to see crows all over the place in central North Carolina by the dozen. There they'd be, watching the squirrels burying their nuts and once the loot was left along, the crows would swoop in and eat up the squirrels' hard-won food stores.
Now that I'm back in Rhode Island, I've been seeing HUGE flocks of crows in the early evenings. Murder upon murder of crows settling on nearby trees, cawing cacophonously and looking dire.
I try not to be superstitious about crows, but wow, it's nerve-wracking after a while.
Do you have many crows where you are? Do they make you nervous? How do you scare them off, if you do? Or do you just leave them be?

I leave them be. The only time I ever had problems with them was the year they kept uprooting and stealing my marigolds. Hubby really likes crows and they really do not bother me.

How rude of them! Marigolds are so good for keeping pests away. Shame on those crows!

@VirginiaLee they're harmless tho.the only other thing i'd ever seen them mess with is fighting over french fries with seagulls at the pier.

I would not bother crows. Instead, I suggest learning more about them. They are quite intelligent. There are some excellent books about crows too. "Gifts of the Crow" is one. There are probably some really interesting things about crows on YouTube.

@VirginiaLee Seriously, they are smart and fascinating.
New research suggests that crows are almost as smart as humans, able to be trained to gather coins to drop in vending machines.

True enough. As one friend likes to point out, "You love all the other birds. Why not crows?"

We have a lot of them around here. No they don't really bother me. I just leave them alone.
