One Day of Travel Down

We are comfortably ensconced in our hotel in Bluffton, SC. We had a tasty dinner at the Oakatie Ale House and then came back and took an hour nap. Now I decided to get out my laptop and catch up with my friends on MyLot. We traveled 275 miles today. I know our slower method of travel doesn't make sense to many other people but we have plenty of time and hubs does get uncomfortable being in the same position for too long. It works for us. We are at a Candlewood Suites which has a full kitchen. They don't provide breakfast but I have eggs, bacon, and bread and butter so I think I will make egg sandwiches for breakfast. I am going to read as much as I can tonight on MyLot before I turn in and then hopefully get a good nights sleep so we can repeat this process tomorrow. For those who many wonder Bluffton is near Hilton Head and Beaufort.

I've been to Hilton Head once, many years ago. On our way there, our car broke down right by a turkey farm.

lol Well it is pretty built up in the area where we are right next to a huge 55 plus community.

Bluffton is a beautiful area! No sense in rushing if you don't have to.

I like some slow and enjoyable travel myself. I used to be the driver and about 300 miles is quite a ways. Nice to hear you are having an enjoyable time. That's what counts after all.

It is what counts, we have lots of time these days and since I have many free hotels nights, it isn't costing us anything.

I've never been to SC so none of those towns are familiar to me. Well, by now you should be several states closer to your home area. Probably a bit tuckered out too, I'm sure. Even with resting each day the driving can take it's toll.

@BelleStarr I didn't realize you owned property in Pa, that's where my husband is from but he didn't live near a lake but on a mountain side instead. A little po-dunk type of town.

Different periods of travel suit different people. I can get very restless when we travel all day.

When we travel with someone else driving we can travel for longer periods, we did drive straight through to Quebec with our son Jason last summer and that is over 450 miles.

@JudyEv I do like about 275 miles a day, that seems to work well for us. We have now traveled over 1100 miles. 180 more miles to home

I like a slower pace for getting anywhere I have to go as well. I hope that breakfast is good and then you have another good day of traveling tomorrow. Drive safely!

If you have time and your husband does not like to travel many miles a day, this is the best way to travel.

We always took three days driving home, unless we made mini vacations in Savannah or Charleston. Always nice to stop around 5:30, check in, eat out and have a drink, shower, and sleep. We either had breakfast at the hotel or stopped along the way. Lunch, too. It was fun while it lasted, but my husband hated the driving. Now that we can fly, I'll be home in 2+ hours!

It is just so different up here with the airport situation, so inconvenient. I will have to arrange for a driver when we decide we have had enough of the driving.

@BelleStarr Are you far from Bradley? You can also look into the autotrain. Drive to D.C. And take it from there. I'm sure things will work out when the time comes. We fly here from Whesterchester. Our so drops us off, does business in Greenwich and Norwalk, and the same before he picks us up. It's 45 minutes from our house, but traffic on the Merritt Parkway can be brutal during rush hour. We may need a limousine or Uber if he's very busy. Ugh!

It's wonderful to not just fly around from a city to another. At times, it's life changing. These small trips are extremely memorable.
