Even in coconut growing areas not everyone can climb a coconut tree. You need skill to climb a tree but you need a special skill to climb a coconut tree. As a coconut tree has no branches the climber gets no support from the tree. It has just a plain trunk from bottom to top. The climber uses a loop of rope around his feet to grip the trunk and pushes himself up as his hands help him to hold to the tree. The climber usually carries a chopper knife along to cut off coconuts from the tree. If you know how to climb a coconut tree you are a hero for not everyone possesses this skill. Do you have it in you?

It is certainly difficult. Learning to climb a coconut tree must start in early age.

I can climb trees but not coconut trees. They're too flat and there's not much to hold on too. Now that I am older, I definitely can't climb them anymore. It's not really appropriate to do so.

In the Philippines people chop the trunks to create steps, the old ones I saw in some provinces are so high, I think they had been in existence since the last world war.
