Fake Smiles

There are so many people I see daily here in sunny Florida. Some I know, others I don't. But we always greet each other with a smile and a greeting.
I think these smiles are genuine, because a sunny day always makes one feel more upbeat.
Our ice princess is a figure skater. One of the lessons she had to learn was to smile throughout her competitions and not look as if she were concentrating on her performances.
I believe she has improved tremendously. She used to skate with a fake smile, gritted teeth, and frozen phony smile.
I like to give natural smiles, too.

Smiling improves your mood. Fake or not, it works. Her smile is beautiful!

I always smile at people even though I am very shy. The only time I can't seem to get the hang of not making a fake smile is when other people take my photos. I hate having my picture taken. When I take a photo and share it I can edit it first when others take my photo I am stuck dealing with it. Your little ice princess looks truly happy in this photo like she just won a metal :-)

It's hard to smile when you're not in the mood, generally I just have a blank look on my face but as soon as I see someone I just have to smile, no reason just have to ..... I even do the same with kritters I know like my neighbors pup.

I can understand your granddaughter @DianneN
When concentrating on a performance it's not always easy to force a smile, I honestly don't think its natural to smile all the time, enjoyment in ones task is often displayed by the way a person does what they like to do, smiles aren't always needed.

She looks like a natural now.
It's nice when people out and about are willing to acknowledge one another by a greeting, smile or even just a wave. A lot of communities aren't as open and friendly and you can really tell the difference when visiting or living in such places.

@DianneN I've never really noticed a big difference in all the different states I've lived in or visited, but some really do notice. I'm used to acknowledging people if they are on the streets and they will usually smile back or say something. But, I've never walked around bigger cities too much and those may be the ones that are more noticeable. I did walk around Detroit when I was in my early twenties, but I don't remember how people on the streets were there and that was before I found not everyone is as friendly..

We always told our school gymnasts to smile. At the end of your routine...pose...and smile. If you are in pain....still smile....we called it"pain smile"

@DianneN one year at competition we had a girl who was very fair in colouring. She finished her routine (floor I think) and I looked at her....she smiled....and took her straight to the first aid station....she had two black eyes....yikes...she bumped something. (I was one of the volunteer coaches....and no don't ask me to perform.)

When my daughter was in cheerleading it was the same way. They had to smile the entire performance and for some it looked natural but for others you could tell that it was forced. A natural smile is so much more beautiful.
What a beautiful picture of your granddaughter! She is so sweet!

Forced smiles are so phony and obvious. My granddaughter plastered fake ones on her face since they told her to smile. She looked awful! Lol! Now she is more confident and comfortable performing her routines, so this has been a good year for her, smile wise. Thank you! She is as sweet as sugar, but with an attitude. Lol!

Smiles be it fake or be it true. A smile can always make you feel good. And if you can smile by seeing someone unknown then both the persons feels good even if it is for a moment or so.
