If you want to save money you should eat more protein and less carbs since you get hungry faster when you eat carbs like pasta or bread. A nice cheap lunch with protein to keep you feeling full until supper could be cottage cheese and fruit, a boiled egg like Heather suggested. I like lunch meat wrapped around a piece of cheese then wrap lettuce around the meat--crunchy with flavors I like. Beans are carbs but also have a lot of protein so they would also be good for lunch, like refried beans or navy bean soup--cheap but good and good for you.

Make everything from scratch and save money. We don't eat meat, but PB&J will really go a long way at keeping us full.

What could be better if a tasty decent meal can be afforded at cheap price. Since, i am a food lover so I seldom look at the prices, whatever makes my tongue watery is the one I grab,.

I believe that you can not save on food, you need to eat right, eat fresh meat and vegetables cooked in a multivar, you can not buy health for any money.

Well, Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup is always a nice standby, and pretty cheap.

Hard boiled eggs are good, with whatever fresh veggies are in season. Or leftovers from the night before.

I like to have foods that are easy to prepare and don't take a lot of time, as its usually just me eating what I decide to make that day. Sometimes its the leftover stew or soup. Other days I make a salad from my garden, so its lots of fresh vegetables.

@fishmomma yes it is hard to cook when you are on your own - sometimes it doesn't really seem worth it

If you are eating a cheap budget lunch to save you money, then eating right foods will actually save you more in the long run. Don't just count what you spend on food, try to count the nutrients you get from them too. If you are familiar with what and how much of the nutrients you should be consuming daily they you can easily look for alternative source of nutrients available in your area that costs less.

a sandwich, home made with peanut butter and jelly, and a pack of milk will do for me.

That's a hard one. We usually eat leftovers for lunch. Food has gotten so expensive. My mother used to keep the food bill down with a big garden and canning the surplus. I garden but I don't think it saves us much.
