Some feel they have acne b/c of hormone issues. Others say it goes away when they clean up their menu, especially avoiding sugar and artificial colors and chemicals.

I know it's very painfull . I had this problem long ago. I tried so many things but never get a proper result. Then I started drinking a lot water and eating cucumber. Trust me it disappeared. Still I am on the same trace, used to drink plenty of water. This problem generally happens either because of hormonal disturbance or because of irregular stomach function. So you have to observe why this is happening . Drink plenty of water , it will help your body to regulate functioning, as well as removes indigestion.

@Nawsheen Lemon water! I love it, with some water and a dash of salt makes it taste good. We can also add some cardamom to increase the flavor. It is good for health too.

I had a terrible problem with this from my teenage years until my mid-twenties. It blighted my life and desperately affected my confidence. There are some responses here which are well meaning but unlikely to be effective for a severe case and others which are rather insensitive. If the problem is severe then you need to do what I eventually did and see a good dermatologist. Treatments are improving all the time. I was prescribed a treatment (medication) which had to be regularly monitored with hospital appointments and which had side-effects but which ultimately made a big difference. That was over 30 years ago and I am sure that treatments will have developed further since then.

Believe it or not, Nick... Even Dermatologists can't do anything for some people with this problem. There isn't a way to fix it for me and I've been to Dermatologists several times.
All they could tell me was what they thought was causing it, but had no suggestions for how to fix it... they said there IS no way to fix my problems with it!
I sure hope my suggestions were not among the insensitive responses! I remember some of those people from WebAnswers who made me cringe at how insensitive they were when addressing a young person's problems! SMH! Some people need sensitivity training before they should be allowed to talk to other human beings!

@DaddyEvil No, I wasn't including you, DE! At 56 I am one of the, perhaps 1%, who still have occasional acne later in life and I am resigned to it. (Fortunately the huge spot right in the centre of my nose last week had mostly cleared up by the time of my speech to an audience of nearly 100 last night!) But that single course of Roaccutane prescribed when I was 25 made a huge difference and it was never as bad afterwards. I am aware, though, that some patients who have more than one course of it risk additional problems.
I hope you and the original poster are able to find something that at least lessens the problem. I don't believe a lot of the claims made about diet but I do think stress can be a factor and it's a vicious cycle because the condition causes stress.
As far as Webanswers was concerned, I did once see a question relating to much more serious condition which I also suffer from and I was amazed at the uninformed and actually downright dangerous response which someone put on there just to try and get a few more.cents.

I feel for you. I used to fight with acne when I was a teenager too. It makes you very self conscious. I hope that someone can recommend something that will help you. Hopefully if nothing works it will just go away given some time. I know it did for me and now all of my battles with acne are distant memories.
