Do leftovers have shelf life?

Malaysia

Lots of food was thrown away when hunger still haunting a lot of people in poor place, which is sadIy the truth. I often try my best to eat everything on my plate. I hate having leftovers. But sometimes leftovers still appeared. I try to store them in the refrigerator to be eaten later or turned into new meal. Usually I store them up to three days before feeding them to my father's roosters. Do you think this is a good habit? What do you do to leftovers?

I usually keep them three days and if not used I give them to the dogs. But, I always try to reheat them with in the next day or two after cooking to eat them because I can not stand to waste food.

Me too. I can't stand seeing food being wasted too. It is a waste of money, sources and effort.

@melissa1024 That is good of you to teach your kids the reason we should not waste food. We should try to buy ingredient just enough for the use of our household so that other people can buy food too. And I sometimes share it with coworkers.

@shaqziad1610 Yes it is. Plus, like I tell my daughter there is plenty of people that are hungry that can't get food that would love to have food that is wasted each year around the world.

It depends on the leftovers. I come from a big family so we normally don't have many leftovers. I love things like mac & cheese, pizza, burgers, and when my dad makes his throw random things in a pan dishes. Also potato salad, chili, spaghetti, and pretty much anything I can put lots of cheese and/or garlic in to it.

Adding cheese and garlic sure enhance a rather plain cool leftovers. But cheese can be pricy.

@shaqziad1610 Where I live cheese is pretty cheap. It is normally of sale for 2 bags for the price of 1 or 4 bags for the price of 2.

@CaseyRoss9966 That is good to hear. You can utilize leftovers better with extra cheese . I sometimes mix things up in stir-fry and sautè too.

I agree that it is not good to waste left over. There are so many people who don't eat three times a day.

I try to eat any leftover food that we have. Usually, it takes about 2 or 3 days to finish everything.

That is a good habit. We don't want them to go to waste, right? I also try to eat them in two to three days. Any longer than that, they goes to the pets. But some leftovers can stay longer, it seems.
